Microplane zesters and graters feature unique razorlike edges that finely slice instead of tearing or shredding. Originally created as a woodworking tool, the first Microplane rasp was invented by brothers Richard and Jeff Grace in Russellville, Arkansas, and has since become a food-prep essential found in kitchens around the world.
I've had a zesting microplane grater for years, which I adore. I just recently purchased this coarse grater. It is so much nicer for grating cheese than any other grater I've used. It's sharp, so I don't need to use as much elbow grease. It is easy to hold, and clean-up is a breeze
This grater works very well. I used it almost daily to grate cheese (usually cheddar). It did a quick job with little effort. I would recommend this brand for a cheese shredder...but not this model. THe plastic handle on mine cracked and fell off, making it extremely hard to use. If the handle were stronger or made of metal, this grater would get 5 stars. Sur la Table has a great guarantee, will see if I can return/exchange for a different model, without a receipt and when I have the time
I like this version of the microplane so much better than my original one that is only about an inch wide. I find this one much easier to use and safer for my hands. Plus they are cute. Definitely a good value and useful product.
