It holds my cleaver
I purchased this knife block because it's the only one I've found locally to have a cleaver slot. I bought a Shun 6"" Classic Cleaver and wanted it easily accessible along with my other knives. My cleaver *just* fits into this block with maybe 1-2mm of clearance. Anything much larger will not fit. The block came in a box w/ Wusthof tape on it so it seems to be a Wusthof item with the Sur La Table brand name. The block looks handsome, however I took off a star because I felt the placing of the shears was too close to the cleaver slot (easy to bang my hand into the shears when I reach for my cleaver)

Why did you choose this?
Sur La Table Store
its not too big, but others were too small.

I purchased Global knives separately and needed a block for them. this one seemed to have several wide and deep slots, which I will need.

To hold the numerous less expensive knives I've collected over the years for general use/abuse. I hone them every time I see them used so they still stay razor sharp and no one is injured

Needed a larger knife block and this product appeared to meet my needs and received good ratings

What color is this knife block?
A shopper on Aug 21, 2015
Best Answer: Very important question....In the picture the block looks like a light caramel color. In fact it is a darker, almost reddish mahogany color. Had I known this, I probably would not have ordered this one. However, I ended up keeping it because it had all the slots I needed, and frankly, I was too lazy to return it. Also, as I have used it, the color scrapes off at the opening of the slots, so it ends up not looking so nice.

Hi, what kind of wood is this kinfe block made of? thank you
A shopper on May 31, 2015
Best Answer: I'm not exactly sure, but the color is a paint orstain of sorts, so what I have found is that the color wears off at the opening of the slots where the knives go in and out. Also, the color is much different from what you see in the picture--it's a dark, reddish brown. Had I known this, I probably wouldn't have bought this particular block, but once I had it and it stores all the knives I have, I decided to keep it. Next time I think I would try to buy one in a retail store so I could see it first hand.

Can this block fit a carving knife and bread knife (both 10 1/4" long), an 8 1/2" santoku, and 9" chef's knife?
Kevin H on Feb 8, 2015
Best Answer: The answer is yes--there are plenty of spaces with more than enough depth and width for your knives. One thing I might mention is that this block is quite a bit darker than it appears on line. It's more of a dark chestnut color than a dark oak color. I wanted a lighter color, but there wasn't one which had the spaces I needed. I'm fine with it, however.

Cleaver

Is there a spot or space to store a 6"" cleaver?can you also tell me how wide this block is? I want to make sure it fits the spot my counter.thank yo
A shopper on Mar 26, 2014
Best Answer: This block is 5 1/2"" wide. It does not have a spot for a cleaver, as most of them are about 1/4"" too wide for the widest slot

What are the measurements of all of the slots? And is the finish nicer than the Wusthof 22 or comparable?

thanks,nat
A shopper on Jun 11, 2012
Best Answer: Can't answer the measurement question but the box came w/ Wusthof tape on it. Looks like Wusthof manufactured it for Sur La Table.
