Base pad keeps jar in place while reducing the force required to open jars. Sharp stainless-steel teeth grip jar. Tool accommodates all sizes of jar lids. Contoured, non-slip design for better leverage. Dishwasher safe.
OXO began with a simple question. Why do ordinary kitchen tools hurt your hands? OXO set out to create a line of kitchen tools that would be comfortable to hold and easy to use. Today OXO offers more than 500 ergonomic products with pressure-absorbing, comfort-grip handles.
I hate to admit it, but I don't have a lot of upper body strength -- nor hand strength for that matter. Most jars have to be opened by one of my neighbors. I tried this out this morning for the first time. I put the jar on the pad, slid the tool into place on the lid, and it OPENED! With very little strength needed. No sore hands. No grunts and groans.
For the life of me, I cannot get it to work. Admittedly, I have only tried on tight home canning jars w/ lids (not a store bought item). But, it has not yet moved a canning ring. I also think this striped the teeth -- which is not a good sign
WE HAVE THE OPENER NOT THE PAD WILL IT STILL WORK?

Best Answer:This opener is absolutely outstanding I every respect. I use it to open 1 qt jars of sugar water used to feed my honey bees. I don't understand the "pad" comment but this handles a very difficult opening job with ease.
