Glad I have this
Purchased this ""old fashioned"" pepper mill a few months ago. I liked the vintage appeal and mostly it was about the looks. Here's the wonderful news: It's easy load, easy to operate & I see this as lasting generations! Also, I like to SEE my pepper (not so finely ground) and this is wonderful for that. Honestly, it's the perfect way to dispense pepper. I was thinking about getting an electric one (for the table) but am still on the fence since I feel spoiled with this tried & true product. If you're picky about food (and pepper) and don't mind hand grinding (not difficult) then this is your ""go to"" grinder

Great Peppermill
My husband and I bought one of these wonderful peppermills in the early '60s. Still works beautifully. I bought another one in the late '80s, use it daily. It also still works beautifully with no problems with grind selection, loading is so easy and I love the way it looks which is why we bought it in the first place. The one I just purchased from SLT was for my daughter. She requested it as a birthday gift. Now she wants the salt mill as well. I highly recommend this charming and well designed peppermill - works forever

My go to wedding gift
My family has used Perfex pepper mills for at least the last 50-60 years. My mom's was handed down to my sister so I had to buy my own when I got married. I bought one for my daughter when she grew up and she still uses & loves it. Now I give them as wedding gifts to any serious cook or family member. I have never had a problem with my Perfex pepper mill. Love them!

Perfex Salt & Pepper Mills
I recently purchased the salt mill as I have had the pepper mill for many years. These mills are perfection. The grinding mechanisms are metal and will last a lifetime vs. others made of plastic. The grind size is easily adjusted to anyone's preference. You will not be disappointed with either of these grinders. I highly recommend them!

Why did you choose this?
Sur La Table Store
We've had the perfex salt mill for 4 years and LOVE it. It was time to add the pepper mill. Husband is getting this as a "spicy" valentine's day gift. :)

I just received this earlier this week. I'm using it for the first time tonight, and metal shavings are coming out with my pepper, is this normal? Does it eventually go away?
Lisa K on Oct 12, 2015
Best Answer: I returned the pepper mill and exchanged it for another. Unfortunately, the same thing occurred. I advise all who use this mill (manufactured NOV 2014) to look closely. Just to be sure I took a magnet over top of what I thought to be metal shavings and sure enough they came right up with the magnet. Sadly, I will be returning this mill and trying another option.

Does the salt mill corrode?
c b on Jun 21, 2015
Best Answer: To be honest, I only have the pepper, my salty mill, which I seldom use (because I use kosher salt and sel Gris for seasoning, and MALDON and flour de sel for finishing) has a ceramic burr, rather than steel. I will volunteer that I've had my PERFEX since 1975: it was the first kitchen tool I ever bought. It was even more expensive THEN than it is now, and $90 was a big deal when I was earning $50 A week in Summer stock; but I've never regretted it. I've dropped it in soup and stock pots several times, and it still works like a dream.

I love my peppermill and salt grinder, but would love to know how to clean them? I have had them for approximately 5 years and need to keep their appearance as good as their terrific ability
A shopper on May 28, 2015
Best Answer: Mine are aluminum so I just wipe them with a damp cloth. The ouside acquires a fine patina with age and I haven't needed to clean the inside.

I purchased this mill 15 years ago, and the small rotating knob on the handle just broke off. How best to contact the manufacturer for repair? Thanks!
Marta L on Jan 19, 2016
Best Answer: This is a fine product with a long life. However, after 15 years I suggest you consider buying a new one.

I have owned a set Perfex salt and pepper mills for about 16 years. Never any problem until recently. The rivet that attaches the small barrel-like handle to the handle arm on the pepper mill degraded over the years and broke, leaving just the handle arm.
Do you sell replacement handles?
Michael R on Jan 18, 2016
Best Answer: No, we don't sell replacement parts for these mills.
