This is truly a massive cutting board: At 18 inches square and 33 pounds it preempts a large amount of counter space and cannot be casually placed in out of sight storage or washed in the sink. On the other hand, by the same token it becomes the primary counter space for preparing fruits and vegetables, and in short order makes polyboards and one inch cutting boards seem flimsy and unstable by comparison. It arrived in early winter and in the low humidity developed a small crack on the cutting surface within the first week. Fortunately daily applications of Boos Board Cream during the first week and weekly applications since have resolved this problem, and at almost five months water beads up nicely on the surface, and the only cleanup required is a damp paper towel. Onion and garlic no longer penetrate. Using the Board Cream on the underside monthly has made it slick enough that it now slides easily across the counter, so its weight is no longer a particular hindrance in maneuvering it in and out of the work space. At four inches thick it definitely elevates the counter work surface, but at five feet-eight I still find the level quite comfortable. I am looking forward to several decades of happy chopping
