Whistle Doesn't Work
I had one of these that worked great for 20 years. I don't know what has happened to their quality, I have now been through 2 in the last 6 months because the whistles do not work consistently. I have wrecked two kettles because the whistle, which was closed fully and properly, didn't sound and they boiled dry. If you don't need the whistle, the kettle itself was fine

Works great for past 5 months of purchase
Contrary to the only other review that there is at the time, I ended up buying this kettle because I felt like at least giving it a chance because I really liked this kettle. And well the whistle has worked ever since i have had it (except the few times that i was using it incorrectly) but that was because I over filled the kettle 2 times, which if you read the instructions it says not to do, and the next time it didn't work was because I realized that i didn't have the lid on securely. So if you are using the kettle correctly I would think there would not be any problems with it. THat is why I gave it a shot because I knew that it didn't make any since for it to work sometimes and not others. Okay so 2nd thing is the whistle sound that it makes isn't what I was hoping for, I was hoping for the old style sounding whistle but it sounds more like a train whistle or maybe a ship, im not quite sure, it's not bad or anything just wasn't quite what i was expecting, I got used to it

Just poorly designed.
Love the harmonic whistle, but there are so many other issues with this kettle that make me want to return it. That said, I've had it for more than a month and it's pretty worn: SlT probably wouldn't take it back.

Issues:
- The handle gets extremely hot. You must always use a pad or the provided insulated handle protector. Otherwise you're in for a burn.

- As pointed by another reviewer, the thing drips when you pour. A lot.

- If you get the stainless version - as is here - it loses its luster after about a month of normal wear and tear on a typical stove set up. It gets dirty.

I would have given it one start, but I like the harmonica.

Major design flaw
A nice kettle to look at, but cannot pour water without large drips at spout. I have been burned several times. Bought this on recommendation of sakes clerk. Bad choice.

Why did you choose this?
Sur La Table Store
exhausted efforts to find one made in the USA and this one seems to be the easiest to clean on the inside with handle not as restrictive as most.

I've had the Chantal cobalt teakettle for over 30 years and it's time for a change. I also have a new white and stainless kitchen so this should be perfect on the new stove.

Does the handle get hot and must you use a mitt when pouring water?
A shopper on Jan 5, 2015
Best Answer: Yes! The package however comes with a mitt (sleeve) that fits directly onto the handle. While this is a nice feature, we found the mitt slides off easily. My husband actually dropped the kettle when the handle "fell" out of the mitt. We ultimately returned the tea pot and bought a Le Creuset with a different type of handle.
