Few meals are more tender and delicious than a hearty tagine. Fragrantly spiced with exotic cinnamon, saffron and ginger, the rich Moroccan stew is served from its own cooking vessel and typically includes a combination of braised meats, fruits and root vegetables.

A great gift for adventurous cooks and a perennial best seller, our tagine gift set includes:

Easy Tagine cookbook by Ghillie Basan.
This fabulous collection of aromatic tagines, salads, side dishes and sweet things features Moroccan kitchen classics. Ghillie Basan has written several highly acclaimed books on the classic cuisines of the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Hardcover: 239 pages.

Les Moulins Mahjoub M’Hamsa Couscous, 1.1 lb.
Produced in the traditional Berber method, these large sundried wheat grains are hand-rolled and preserved with olive oil for a nutty, earthy flavor unlike any other couscous. A wonderful complement to almost any North African or Mediterranean dish. Made in Tunisia.

Good except...
This is our third tagine and definitely the least expensive (by far) of all. With only one meal from it I think we can safely say we are/will be getting more than our moneys worth out of it. However, it has one significant flaw. The lid is very hard to grasp to remove when hot it is too wide near the top and does not have a protrusion like the other tagines that you can easily grasp. All we need to do is find some sort of lifter or heat resistant rubber piece that works and we might change our minds. We tried one heat resistant rubber trivet and still had to use both hands to safely remove the lid. Removing the lid with one hand and serving with the other, then replacing the lid would be ideal but its not gonna work on this one! I would recommend this kit as a starter set only

TOO HOT TO HANDLE
The tagine lid is far too hot to handle. Had to use a rubber glove to lift off. The recipe for lamb and date did not work according to the instruction so I had to modify. The couscous smelled a little rancid when opened. I noticed it was already a year old. Cooking did not help, but made the smell worse - inedible. All in all, disappointing. I am taking the couscous back to Wilshire Blvd. store for replacement, shall keep the tagine and ditch the cookbook
