Great pan!
We first saw and used this grill pan at a Sur la Table cooking class. The raised grill lets fat run off, yet the pan retains heat really well to give good looking sear marks. And it goes into the oven to finish thicker cuts. We love it

Better than I expected
My daughter bought this pan at the Detroit SLT. I was skeptical , but I tried it and liked it enough to buy one for myself. It really is a good stand-in for an outdoor gas grill. This pan does an excellent job on chicken without using additional oil to pan sear. I also like it for hot dogs and burgers--nice grill marks ( I hate microwave hot dogs...). However, just soaking the pan doesn't loosen the bits & pieces left l from cooking. I use a soft to mid range brush to clean up the pan after cooking--an easy job

A Grill Pan without the Mess or the Fuss
This pan really shows off the virtues of Scanpan's proprietary nonstick finish. It seems able to tolerate high heat as well as cast iron grill pans with only somewhat less heat retention. Where cast iron would require careful maintenance of seasoning with inevitable retention of greasy food debris in the grill grooves and likely a smelly cabinet to match, I have not used any oil at all on this pan, and so far the food has released with an almost magical ease. In fact the Scanpan people strongly discourage letting a patina build up as one would do with cast iron, as this would interfere with the nonstick properties of the cooking surface. Fortunately even the grooves have cleaned up with only rubbing with a non scratch sponge with detergent leaving a squeaky clean pan ready for the next round and a happy cabinet with no stale grease smell

Love this Pan
This pan cooks so evenly and cleans up so nicely. I grilled chicken in it and finished it off in the oven. It charred the chicken beautifully and there was no scrubbing of the pan. Just washed up nicely. My favorite new grill pan.

love my scanpan
this the ninth piece of scanpan I buy and I have never been disappointed. I love using them and tell everyone about them. My son introduced me to them when he worked for Sur La Table and I never looked back. I highly recommend them.

Oven Proof Handle?

This says oven safe to 500 degrees, but there is another of the same pan that also says this and has a metal handle. I'm wondering if the same description was used erroneously, or is this plastic handle truly safe to 500 degrees
A shopper on Feb 20, 2012
Best Answer: The handle on this span really is oven safe up to 500 degrees.

Can the scanpans be used on induction cooktops?
A shopper on Apr 23, 2012
Best Answer: Although there are some lines of Scanpan cookware that are induction compatible, the Classic line is not one of them. I would suggest you look into the Scanpan CTX line. It has a stainless steel exterior, making it induction compatible

I am interested in the Scanpan Classic Griddle pan. I saw the pan yesterday in the store. It doesn't come in a box or with any written information.

Would the pan come in a box or with any written information if I order it online?
Pookie on Jun 8, 2014
Best Answer: If ordered online, the pan would arrive in the same packaging as it is offered in stores. Specific care and use info for Scanpan pieces are typically pretty easy to find online, although Scanpan doesn't feel the need to provide many details instructions as their cookware is highly durable and very few specific instructions are needed

From the dimensions, it seems like a small pan for a family meal. Would you need to sear off 2 chicken breasts or pork chops at a time and then transfer them to another dish?
Amy S on Feb 16, 2015
Best Answer: It is definitely small for a family meal of, say, four typical pork chops or chicken breasts. To give you an idea of the amount of room allowed, I have grilled a few sliced vegetables with, variously, a couple of rib lamb chops, or a single chicken breast, pork chop or New York steak. Two pork chops, chicken breasts or steaks would also grill beautifully, but not more than that at one time.

Best Answer: Scanpan is the first producer of nonstick cookware certified PFOA free, so it’s safe for your family and the environment.

Even though Scan Pan is oven rated to 500 degrees F, using on an outdoor grill would not be recommended.
