I have a slew of these trays in both the perfect cube and king cube sizes from Tovolo. These make large cubes that last much longer than normal cubes, great for parties and everyday use. (King cubes are extra large)
I run them under the tap till overflowing, tilt forward to level off (slightly below the top) and pop in the freezer. They are sturdy, stack great and take up less space than traditional trays.
I entertain a lot and I'm constantly asked what trays I use. I finally starting giving them as gifts and everyone loves them.
They are silicone and do not release like ""normal"" trays, you push the cubes out as needed. I found when emptying a lot of trays at once that setting them out for 5 minutes and twisting the tray made for a quick and easy release.
I found the darker colored trays to leave a slight residue that eventually went away after numerous uses. I prefer the lighter colors since I haven't experienced any residue with them. (less dye, i assume
I can not believe how hard it is to find easy decent Ice Cube trays. I want normal size, easy removal, with trays that can be filled without the water going all over the counter, and stackable. Oh yeah, trays that don't crack after a few uses. These trays are terrible to fill, small cube size and there is white debrise inside the water after filling (I have washed them several times) Don't buy these...
I don't use them for ice, instead I freeze lemon and lime juice all the time and love these trays. Silicone trays hold on to whatever is frozen in them, so they do take some coaxing to get the cubes to release, but work great. I see no reason they wouldn't work as well for water! If you do what another reviewer suggests, let them sit out for a few minutes, I agree that it would make it easier to get the ice cubes to release! So fun to put fruit, flowers or veggies in each square before adding liquid
