This is a very practical tea kettle, but mine has absolutely no whistle sound -- beyond a slight wheeze -- when it is boiling, so take care if you leave the room. Also, the relatively squat handle gets in the way of an easy fill-up, from my water faucet at least. More thought could have been put into that part of the design: a slightly longer and maybe a little more arched handle would help. It looks cute and sturdy, though, and it does the job. I picked the blue and it is a lovely color
This little kettle does the job beautifully. I bought to replace a kettle I had for years (well over a decade) and I have not been disappointed. The handel is a plus as it alows you to easily pour the water without fear of being scalded by water or steam. The sleek design also goes well in any kitchen. I highly recommend this for anyone in need of a new kettle.
Received this about a week and a half ago, it's very stylish in terms of it's shape, the whistle works well, and the lid is sufficiently easy to remove and replace. It holds a good amount of water, but not so much that it takes forever to heat up. The finish is very high quality, it has not discolored at all, even though the color is light (I ordered the green.)
The tea kettle is as described, the base holds enough water for at least 4 mugs of tea. The top fits snugly but a little pull and it comes off. It is easy to fill, my faucet head is flatter and fits nicely under the handle and fills without a problem. The opening is wide enough for me to fit my hand into the pot for cleaning-which was one of my concerns. The whistle has a nice alert sound-not an ear piercing sound. It has been 2 weeks since the purchase and so far I am very happy with it. I bought the black and it blends nicely with my appliances
I purchased this for my wife as a Christmas present and after a month of use she still loves it! She uses it 5 days out of 7 and it looks and functions great. The whistle is gradual when it reaches boiling point then lets you know it's fully ready. The lid trigger is solidly made and functions well and the enamel coating is holding up great. It's not made for dishwasher, but is very easy to clean by hand. A great product for the money that will last a life time with little maintenance
Been using for a few weeks - seems to be ideal. Loud whistle that doesn't quit, handle doesn't heat up so no need for a pot holder, finish looks great. The red teapot makes a cheery addition to my kitchen. It gets lots of use so I will know in a year how it holds up. For now it is attractive and functional and seems built to last
The finish on the inside completely wore off in 11 months
My first impression was that the kettle is a little awkward to pour from if you want to empty it, I think due to the shape. After 11 months of use I just noticed that below the waterline the inside is completely raw pottery now and dust comes off if you touch it. Rust has also formed on the inside rim of the spout where it connects to the kettle body. I think that I'll just boil water in a small saucepan.
About 5 months ago we were horrified to find that our name brand kettle was leaving a sludgy grey residue on the inside after use. No matter how many times we cleaned it with warm soapy suds or vinegar, the same thing would happen with repeat use. In the time since we've purchased 4 additional stovetop kettles that were highly ranked on Amazon. Each time there was a problem- the handle would get too hot, the spout would dribble burning water as it poured, the lid would rust within several uses, etc. A month ago we were in Sur la Table and decided to give this one a try. We have used it almost daily since then. First of all, it's gorgeous. The black looks stunning in our black, charcoal, aluminum & warm maple kitchen. The kettle has a nice weight in your hand but is not too heavy. When you depress the lever to open the spout it does so gracefully without a jolt- important when you have boiling water in there. The handle gets a little warm but by no means is too hot to handle. No plastic parts touch the water- only enamel and metal. There's a smooth pour once the whistle sounds. No funny taste to the water, and no residue on the inside of the kettle afterwards. Also- no rust at all inside the lid. This is very well made in Thailand and we would not hesitate to buy it again if needed. It's the perfect kettle we'd been trying to find!
I walked into Sur la Table planning to buy a much more expensive teakettle. I received good advice from a sales clerk and wound up with this one. All of the colors are great. The kettle works perfectly on my induction cooktop and looks adorable. Great value!
I purchased the red sur la table tea kettle because of the trusted brand name, but after 6 months of using the tea kettle the outside red paint started to crack right by the whistle. The tea kettle wasn't heavily use only on the weekends. When not in use it's in the cupboard away from the sun and stove.
Although the kettle performed adequately in other regards, the black part of the knob on the lid cracked within 90 days. No warranty that I can find, and customer service said no return or exchange possible at this point. Very disappointing.
Based on positive reviews and I have not been disappointed. My old tea kettle (25+ years old) rusted out. I bought two different ones at Bed, Bath, & Beyond and returned them as they both dripped while pouring. This tea kettle is great.
Haven't owned a tea kettle in 30 years. Wanted a red one. This is a beautiful color. It is also easy to fill, even though the handle doesn't fold down. I also find that it heats up quickly and the lid is easy-isn to get off and on.
Need a new kettle for an induction cooktop. Questions: Is it a strong whistle, i.e. do you have to be in same room to hear it? Will it rust? Is it guaranteed not to rust? Does the lid lift easily and fit well?
Best Answer:I think the whistle is plenty loud to hear from another room. I have not seen any rust forming at all on my kettle but have only had it since July. The lid does fit tight but I think that is a good thing! I do not have any trouble removing it to fill. Deb M.
This is a great kettle. The whistle can be easily heard in another room. It is not a super loud whistle - but easily heard. The lid fits tightly but is still easy to remove for filling. I've seen no indications of rust. This kettle is well made and a good value.
The whistle is really strong and you can hear it from another room. I haven't had any problems with the rusting but the plastic on the nozzle melted from hot water in the first few weeks of having it. Would not recommend this kettle.
Best Answer:I mean, I haven't tested it in my basement lab, or anything, but I'd assume that yes, it's free of heavy metals (including lead). Not trying to make fun, here, honest... but you do realize that including those materials in most consumer products has been illegal for what, 30-40 years, right?
If it did contain such materials, SLT wouldn't know, and certainly wouldn't advertise that (and thus wouldn't be able to even sell it).
