worth every penny
I just purchased this product in the kansas city plaza store. I love it. I came home, soaked the planks and grilled four salmon fillets on two planks. spend the extra money for the stainless trays, they are worth it. by far the best salmon I've ever cooked.. sooo good.. I literally will never cook salmon any other way! you will not be disappointed

$4.95 worth of deliciousness!
I bought two of these a few months ago. Although we grill almost every weekend, I just discovered them in cupboard and used them yesterday. Soaked in water for one hour and ready to roll. AMAZING! I will never go back to regular grilled salmon. For under ten dollars total, we were able to serve salmon to our guests that they raved about all night

Can anyone tell me the difference between the different woods? Not sure whether to order cedar, alder or maple? Thanks
Kathleen R on May 28, 2015
Best Answer: The "flavor" of the wood is different. Cedar is normally used for salmon. However, it's fun to experiment with other woods also for a difference. Alder is good for other fish fillets.

smoking on planks

How do you get the plank smoking? Do you advise soaking in water, putting on the gas grill until it starts to smoke then adding food? Clsoing the lid. Previous experience says by the timethe plank smokes the food is done. SOS Thank
A shopper on May 29, 2012
Best Answer: To reduce the burning of the wood to a point where you can effectively grill on a plank you need to make sure that it has been soaked in water for at least an hour. This will get the wood as wet as it can get and give you the time you need to get your fish completely cooked before the board starts really burning. If you notice that the board has caught fire while you are grilling, spray it down with water to put out the fire. This isn't to say that you don't want the board to burn a little. The smoldering of the wood is what creates the smoke and flavors the fish. You just don't want the board actually on fire.Once you have the grill burning and the planks soaked place the fish on the board, season as appropriate and place the whole thing on the grill. Because the fish is being cooked indirectly it will take longer than if you just grilled the fish directly. Plan on about 50% more cooking time versus regular grilling when cooking on a board. During the cooking time you can baste the fish with lemon juice, butter, or most anything that isn't flammable. You do not want to inspire a fire
