Good value bread knife
This Wusthof 9"" bread knife was a good value purchase. The knife was well constructed. It was sturdy and held nicely on my hand. I use it to slice European type of bread with thick crust. It cuts well. The price at Sur La Table is comparable to the same knife that I saw in Germany. Therefore, I waited upon my return to US to purchase it from Sur La Table instead of carrying it back from Germany

Works Exactly Like Expected
We got this knife two years ago - about 30 years into our marriage - and I was like, ""WHOA, how did we EVER manage without one of these all these years?"" (We have other nice knives, just never a dedicated bread knife.) This knife works just great and remains sharp. But it's best use may be in cutting tomatoes - wave this knife at a tomato and the slices fall like magic. Though this is one of the most affordable knives offered here, I really see no downside from the price point. I think it works fine

Not for regular cutting of crusty breads
I bake my own sandwich bread which comes out like a rustic/baguette (i.e. very crusty) but in a sandwich loaf. I then cut all the slices using a bread knife on a wood cutting board. I started with a Victorinox but it was tearing through my bread so I decided to upgrade. At the store I preferred how the Wusthof Gourmet knife cut when compared to the Classic so I decided on the Gourmet.
This knife worked beautifully on the first loaf but by the 4th loaf the serrations had burred badly and this knife too was tearing through my bread rather than cutting it. Basically the knife was no good after THREE LOAVES OF BREAD!!! (For reference, my breads aren't bricks; they're very crusty on the outside but the interior is soft.) Luckily for me, Sur La Table took the knife back. The knife expert at the store told me that the Wusthof Gourmet line is priced this low for a reason. On his recommendation I went with a Shun Classic Bread knife .. am curious how a knife >2x the price of the Wusthof Gourmet holds up
