I conquered risotto!!!
Ok...my update: I have battled risotto many a time and have never been quite happy with the result. Too dente or mushy. Tonight, right out of the box...I have conquered! The saute feature was wonderful for browning some hungarian sausage bits and zucchini. 1.75 cups of arborio rice to 1 cup wine and 4 cups warm chicken stock...and walked away. 30min later: added my parm cheese, veggie/sausage mixture, stirred done. A little sprinkle of fresh parsley, a couple of glasses of white wine= lovely dinner with my hubby. The pot was lighter than I expected, will have to see if it will replace my beloved crockpot on the counter, but so far worth my purchase. By the way: clean up was a breeze. The nonstick surface did not cause the overnight soaking in the sink problem that the stove top version previously done on regular basis. It cleaned up in a snap. LOVED IT!!

All in One Perfection
My wife and I have owned this product for a little over a month now, and we use it almost every day. The steam feature quickly and easily steams vegetables. The crock pot feature makes all the slow cook recipes we love, and the risotto feature is unbelievably good.

I HIGHLY recommend this product to anyone who likes to cook

Has Earned Place of Honor on My Counter
I bought this mainly for the Risoto feature and I am so pleased. I love Risoto, but have never had the patience to make it often. This product makes amazing Risoto and its so easy. The first time I used it I cooked the Risoto below and steamed Sole (fish) and carrots in the basket above. It was great. I have since made white and brown rice, and Farro in it. This product has a permanent place of honor on my kitchen counter

worth the space on counter
I saw this in the catalog and got it immediately. Great rice cooker and crock pot. Haven't tried the risotto feature yet but this wasn't a deal beaker when I bought it. Cleans up easily and crock pot is perfect size for a couple who like leftovers! My old rice cooker and crock pot are headed to my next yard sale!

Super Easy and Super Tasty Risotto
The risotto I whipped up in the Breville Risotto maker was a big hit this weekend. So big, in fact, that I made it twice! I loved that I could saute some chicken, onions and garlic in the same pot I made the risotto. And making the risotto was a snap. Just press the risotto button and walk away. About 25 minutes later I had perfect risotto. I mixed back in the chicken with a little parmasan cheese, pesto and watercress and a tasty meal was ready to serve

LOVE it!!
I have made risotto , I have made rice and I have made a stew in this cooker. Each dish turned out perfectly. The risotto was as good as what I make by hand. I have now given away my crock-pot and rice cooker. This cooker's all-in-one features are top of the line

Amazing Purchase
I've spent years waiting for an appliance that works like this one. I've thrown out single use (rice cooker, slow cooker, etc) small appliances when downsizing, and waited for someone to make one appliance that could do it all, and this is it! I've used this pot on every setting and across the board it produces great results, with the rissoto being my biggest surprise. I made a recipe that I've made many times in the past in the traditional manner and Iit produced an equally great rissoto, and with no hastle! AMAZING

I was a disbeliever - NO MORE! Great risotto!
I bought this device because I needed a new rice cooker and the risotto feature, if it worked, would be awesome. The reviews are all great, but risotto is my favorite food, and I had a REALLY hard time believing it could produce the perfect al dente texture required.

The rice making feature, perfect. Fluffy, separated grains, not too mushy. I've used it a few times with consistent results.

I just tried the risotto feature for the first time tonight. And one word of warning. If you are expecting to throw all ingredients in and have risotto come out the other end, you will be disapointed. You do have to saute the onions, allow the wine to absorb, etc. HOWEVER, you do NOT have to stand over it waiting for the rice to cook, stirring constantly for 18-20 minutes.

I used a recipe in the Breville book for guidance on proportions, but my own stock recipe and stir-ins (tomatoes, cream and pureed shrimp, topped with sauteed shrimp). It was al dente, delicious and I did it all while on a work teleconference in about 30 mins. AMAZING

Excellant product
This product is the ultimate multi-tasker. Yeah, it makes very good risotto. But that is not enough reason to buy an appliance. This cooking-jewel sautes, steams, gets hot enough to boil pasta, slow-cooker setting and an over-drive high gear for the slow cooker as well. The design is sleek and sturdy. I have purchased 5 of these cookers; 3 for my adult children for Christmas and 1 for the office and 1 for my boss. You may never use your stove top again

Just OK
Others have detailed the features and uses for the Risotto Plus, so I won't repeat that. I received this as a gift and while it certainly does make risotto, and there is much less stirring involved, that's the best I can say.

We made Risotto Milanese from the included recipe booklet. Instructions were clear, but it did involve almost 50% hands-on time, which was a bit disappointing. The risotto was undercooked when the machine switched over to WARM, so had to add more chicken broth, then wait before adding the parm. The final product was no better than my slow cooker recipe, which takes longer but requires no hands-on time.

Next up was white rice. The rice was good, although only 15 minutes on WARM left it a bit crunchy around the edges and on the bottom. I would not want to keep it warm for an hour or longer.

Clean-up was easy and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. It seems well built. My overall impression is that this is a decent product, but not as good as I expected from Breville

A shopper on Nov 2, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Not only will this easy-to-use machine make perfect fluffy rice every time, but it also takes the hassle out of preparing rich and creamy risotto, and can sauté too.

You can definitely cook brown or black rice in the Risotto Plus. There is a conversion chart in the owner's manual that gives you the liquid to rice ratio. For brown or black rice follow the brown rice chart.
I've been hoping for a machine that can cook and stir at the same time, but I'm more interested in making custard. Will this work for custard

It would have to cook over low heat and stir constantly so as not to curdle the egg-cream mixture.
A shopper on Mar 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Because this machine does not stir, I wouldn't suggest it for custard

How does this make risotto?
A shopper on Nov 2, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Not only will this easy-to-use machine make perfect fluffy rice every time, but it also takes the hassle out of preparing rich and creamy risotto, and can sauté too.

An electronic controller ensures that the temperature is precise throughout the stir-free risotto cycle, while the gently simmering stock agitates the rice grains. The sauté feature means you can also brown mushrooms, onions, meat and more to include in the risotto.

A shopper on Aug 26, 2012

Will this cooker make grits?
Ovina F on Sep 5, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hmmm...I can make brown rice, quinoa, and lentils very easily, but not sure about grits. I know that a lot of people make steel cut oats, and other grains in it, so I wouldn't see why not. I am so happy with mine, use it all the time and always testing it out with anything. Love the saute and risotto option as well!
How many quarts is this product for slow cooking? For example, how many pounds of pork roast can I make using the low slow cooker setting? I am surprised that I can't find the answer anywhere!
Jenn D on Dec 31, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Hi Jenn-
The unit itself has a large capacity of 4 quarts so the pound equivalent to that would be 8lbs. So with liguid and any other ingredients you add to the pork would probably allow a 6-7lb pork roast. Hope that helps. Bill
Can you prepare recipes for a 2 quart slow cooker in this one?
A shopper on Dec 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes! I just used mine as a slow cooker & sauté pan for the first time last week. I started by sautéing Italian sausages in it. After draining oil, I added back in the sausages and my pasta sauce and let it cook on HIGH all afternoon. MUCH easier to use, clean, and with the glass lid, you can keep your eye on your recipe the who,e time. Not to mention, it's the BEST rice cooker I've ever had! Enjoy

Can this rice cooker cook converted rice (like Uncle Ben's)?
Jane W on Dec 6, 2015

Is the result ""al dente""

Am I able to keep that nutty finishing touch to the risotto, or will it cook past that point
A shopper on Sep 7, 2013
BEST ANSWER: It's all about how much water you use. If you use the amount of water suggested in the instruction booklet, your risotto should be al dente. If you want it softer, use more water; if you want it firmer, use less
Does the Breville Risotto Plus come with a suggested recipe book?
A shopper on Aug 23, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I just got one. Like others have said, there are recipes that look creative in the manual. The manual is available at breville.com: http://www.brevilleusa.com/media/mediaappearance/12563/BRC600XL_IB_A12_FA_LowRes.pd

Maximum quantity of risotto?

Is the maximum quantity of risotto 20 cups just like the maximum quantity of rice? Does making a large quantity affect the ""magic"" risotto process
A shopper on Dec 6, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The 20 cup capacity is the same regardless of whether you are preparing rice or risotto. Preparing a large quantity or risotto does not effect the process at all. I have actually found that the larger the batch, the creamier it is
Slow-cooker option

The machine has two slow-cooker buttons, but little has been said about the slow-cooker features in the descriptions of this product. Can you tell me more about this machine's slow-cooker capability, features, capacity, etc.? Thanks
A shopper on Oct 7, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Breville is selling this on the fact it makes risotto without having to watch it so close. However, you're right; it is also a slow cooker. There are 2 settings, high and low. The differences are more for cooking time and volume vs. difference in heat. The low setting is for foods that require a longer cooking time (6-7 hours). You would use this for larger dishes and/or denser/larger cuts of meat. The high setting is used for a quicker cooking time (3-4 hours). This is for smaller portions and less dense cuts of meat.Inside the cooking vessel are 2 fill lines, minimum and maximum. The minimum setting is approximately 8 cups of liquid and the maximum is approximately 10 cups. Simply fill up to the line and don't exceed the maximum fill line
