It's a keeper!
This is a new addition to my kitchen and I have only gotten as far as using this item for poultry, but so far, so good! I had a bit of a challenge getting the remote to pick-up the broadcast from the base unit. As a man i suppose I'm predisposed to loathe reading directions, but once I actually broke down and took a peek at the simple instruction sheet it worked like a charm. I can't wait to try it next on a pork roast. My favorite part of this gadget is that the cord is sufficiently long enough to span all the way from the probe in the meat, through the oven door, and up to the base unit so it can sit comfortably on the counter and not just dangle helplessly from the oven door

Fantastic until probe breaks
I have had this thermometer for a year and used it about twice a week. On Christmas day, in the middle of turkey roasting, the probe went wonky and will now have to be sent back to the manufacturer. Until then it was a terrific piece of kit, but I would have expected it to last longer. The probes only have a warranty for 90 days which seems ludicrously short to me, and replacement probes cost $12 each or 2 for $20. In summary, useful while it works, but there will be ongoing costs to this one, and probably sooner rather than later.

Works good till grill heats up
Apparently you can't use this prob after 450 degrees so as soon as you use high heat to sear a steak the wire burns out and no longer works. Only problem is they don't sell extra probs. stay with pocket thermometers, less parts to go bad.

Slow update rate
It works OK -- but the remote unit only seems to update its reading every three to five minutes. When there is only 5 to 10 degrees between pefect and overdone, that is simply not often enough. So when the food is getting close, I end up having to go outside and stand by the BBQ or smoker anyway. Bottom line, you can use the remote to tell when the food is getting close, but don't rely on the remote alone towards the end.

On the remote roasting thermometer, the temperature is off. It is currently reading 50-75 degrees higher than the actual temp. Only the second time I've used it. Is there a way to recalibrate?
A shopper on Oct 13, 2014
Best Answer: There are no directions for calibration in the included instructions.

Can I get a replacement probe? Mine was burned through while using it on my BBQ :(
A shopper on Nov 17, 2013
Best Answer: I love this product, I'm on my second one. It would be nice if the probe was available for purchase separately. Even at this reasonable price it seems excessive to have 2 pieces of a 3 piece unit still good but no option to replace the damaged probe. Please consider replacement request. Thank you

Do you set temperature or type of meat?
A shopper on Dec 28, 2013
Best Answer: You can do either. If you know what temperature you want the meat cooked to, then set the temperature. That seems to work best
