Serves: Makes 1 serving
- 2-⅓ ounce bourbon
- 1 sugar cube
- 8 fresh mint leaves
- ¼ ounce simple syrup
- Fresh mint sprig, Angostura® aromatic bitters and powdered sugar for garnish
Procedures:Nothing cools on a scorching summer day like a Mint Julep, the perfect libation anytime you want a refreshing cocktail. Traditionally, juleps are served in silver or pewter cups and chilled so that frost forms on the outside of the cup.
In the julep glass, lightly muddle the mint leaves and the simple syrup. Add bourbon and pack the cup with crushed ice. Stir vigorously until a layer of frost develops on the outside. Garnish with more crushed ice—if it looks like a snow cone, you’re doing it right.
Sprinkle a bit of powdered sugar on top and garnish with a fresh mint sprig. Alternately, you may add a couple drops of bitters for extra flavor.
