Long enjoyed in Europe, demerara sugar has only recently become available in the United States. This sugar’s exceptional flavor comes from the unique climate and rich volcanic soil of Mauritius, as well as from a processing method that retains much of the original sugar cane flavor.

India Tree’s demerara sugar has subtle caramel notes and makes an excellent table and topping sugar. It’s a large-grained sugar with a relatively low molasses content that has a paler color and milder flavor than other brown sugars.

Use it on cereals and yogurt, in coffee, and for glazing hams—or as a dessert topping and for decorating cookies.
