Classic Sangria

Classic Sangria

A refreshing way to start a summer dinner.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup simple syrup, equal parts sugar and water
  • 2 bottles Spanish red wine
  • 3/4 cup brandy
  • 1/2 cup Triple Sec
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 oranges, sliced into thin rounds
  • 2 ripe peaches
  • 2 green apples, cored and sliced thin
  • 2 lemons, sliced into thin rounds
  • Fresh mint

Procedure

  1. In a small saucepan, add the water and sugar. Set temperature to medium-high and bring sugar-water to a boil. Keep boiling until all the sugar dissolves into a clear syrup. This takes about 10 minutes.
  2. Combine all fruits, brandy and Triple Sec in a large pitcher. Let stand for 8-24 hours.
  3. Add all remaining ingredients and refrigerate, covered, for 2 hours or up to 2 days.
  4. Serve over ice in a tall glass garnished with a fresh sprig of mint.
