Herb-Mulled Wine
The holidays conjure up thoughts of sitting around a nice warm fire sipping a homemade concoction such as mulled wine. This recipe leaves some latitude as to your wine choices. In general, pick a dry, fruity red for the best result (Syrah, Zinfandel, Shiraz are all good choices). Enjoy with some spiced pecans or almonds.
Ingredients
- 2 bottles dry red wine
- 4 ounces port, brandy or Grand Marnier
- 10 whole cloves
- 3-4 cinnamon sticks
- 4 fresh sage leaves
- 1 sprig fresh rosemary
- Zest of 1 large orange
- Zest of 1 lemon
Procedure
- Combine all igredients in a stockpot and bring to a simmer—do not boil. Heat for 20-30 minutes to allow all the ingredients to amalgamate and serve. Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig (it will further enhance the "herbiness" of the mixture)
- If there's any particular flavor you like (or dislike) more than another, adjust the recipe accordingly
