The Science of Cooking for Teens

What You Will Learn
Discover how curiosity creates the cook! Calling all teens for a week of mad-delicious food experiments and cooking! For five fascinating and fun-filled days, teens will experience a world of hands-on culinary exploration with their peers and an experienced Sur La Table chef instructor. They’ll learn why eggs are extraordinary, the complex science of breadmaking, and what’s involved with turning dairy into yummy yogurt, cheese or gelato!
All week we’ll engage teens in essential fundamentals such as basic knife skills, following a recipe, monitoring cooking temperatures and times, and kitchen safety. But best of all, we’ll get into the scientific details of cooking: the importance of specific amounts of ingredients and cooking times, and wild ideas such as how yeast reacts to sugar and warmth or how oil and eggs emulsify and why. Along the way, teens will learn the science behind creating great food they’ll love to eat and share with family and friends.
Classes run about two hours each and last for five consecutive days. Share your love of cooking with teens by giving them a foundation that will benefit them for a lifetime with an experience they’ll never forget. At the end of camp, each teen chef will take home a packet of the recipes they made and their own Sur La Table apron. Teens age 13-17 are welcome to join.
Please note: Classes are only available as a five-day series, no single day enrollments.
