Cake Donuts

Ingredients

  • 2½ cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional)

Procedure

  1. In a bowl combine all the dry ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together all the wet ingredients. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, being careful not to clump. This will form a soft dough.


  2. Roll out the dough ½ inch thick on a floured surface and cut out with donut cutters.


  3. Heat a fryer to 375°. Fry the donuts until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove from the oil and cool slightly. While the donuts are still warm top with sugar, cinnamon sugar or glaze.
