Why did you choose this?
Sur La Table Store
After taking the Sur La Table Knife Skills 101 class, I saw how easy/nicely a properly sharpened knife worked. I prefer to have control, so thought I would get the wet stone with the additional angle trainers so I get the proper angle for my knives.

The sharpening guides are a nice touch for Asian style knives that have more delicate and lower angle edges.

I using this on all of my knives... any brand. This is a simple system that holds the blade so that I get a very consistent and repeatable edge. The rough side helps me repair the damage on my knives and the 1000 grit side allows me to get a much finer finish. This is my favorite sharpener. It is simple to setup. It does take a about 15 minutes the first time to repair a moderately damaged knife, but the results are worth it. After that touching up the knife is easy and takes about 5 minutes.

what angle are the guides?
A shopper on Mar 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The angles are 10-15°.
What kind of stone is it? Is it real stone or manufactured? If manufactured, what's the material?
A shopper on Oct 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The whetstone is made of hardened ceramic powder. I only use Global cutlery and this stone works fantastic. There's an online video by one of the Global principles, if you search "sharpen global knives" that will help you a lot.
