Excellent tool and very well priced.
It's the best hone I've ever used.
It takes no time to sharpen my Global knives to razor sharp.
In addition to the material it's made of, the oval shape is so much better than the typical round shape.

    too strong
I got this upon recommendation at the store, but it has caused the blade of 2 of my knives to get chipped the first time using it. One of those knives was pretty expensive and brand new, and now it is essentially ruined.
Furthermore, if you use a magnifying lens to see the blades close up, you can see it creates a lot of scratches on the cutting edge, and even looks like the edge is ripped a bit.
It makes more of a sandpaper, grinding sound when using it, rather than a honing sound like traditional honing rods. I am definitely returning this.
I would say to only use this if you are an expert and absolutely know what you are doing.

Not as good as smaller version.
I had a smaller version of this steel for a decade. It did the job well, even put a great edge on my Shun with a broken tip. Upon first use of this steel it actually dulled all my knives after sharpening them. Not impressed. Happy Cooking!

Does anyone find this leaves scratches on their cutting edge?
    E J on Apr 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It does leave some but that is to be expected. I'd rather have a sharp knife than worry about scratches. Diamond type sharpening steels are the only ones worth having.
