Classy thing to have at your table
I purchased this spice grinder for my dinner table in order to finely granulate my pepper. Generally, I like my spices to be coarse, but my wife refuses to eat it that way so the fact that this accomodates both tastes is very convenient. The design is sturdy feeling (stainless steal and ceramic) and I can tell its made to last a long time. I would highly recommend this spice mill.

Very Disappointed
When my very old Krups coffee grinder died, I decided to buy a real spice grinder. This one was recommended at the Sur La Table store.
I can describe it in one word: Terrible.
On the finest setting, cumin seeds are just broken into pieces... nowhere close to what I would call ground. Same with fennel seeds. I really don't know what the purpose of this grinder is. It isn't even comfortable in the hand - unpleasant to grip the hard smooth glass container while you turn the grinding part. I hate to throw away something that I paid this much money for.... but I guess I'll have to just buy another Krups. Too late to return it.

Decided that freshly ground spices taste better than the pre-ground ones in a jar. This item looks like it's easy to clean and will work well for my purposes.

The simplicity and attractiveness of this mill. However, the alloy metal used for the grinder isn't the best. We had this same mill break grinding sea salt. This is a replacement to see if it was just a defective unit or whether the unit simply doesn't support salt grinding as stated in the product description.

Not just pepper, but other spices that I usually grind with a mortar and pestle...but doesn't always result in a uniform grind. With this mill, I'll be able to grind with a consistent result and a varied grind and it appears to be easily cleaned

can this grind nuts?
A shopper on Feb 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I've only used this for peppercorns. I don't believe it's strong enough to grind nuts. I bought an electric Cuisinart Spice And Nut Grinder to do heavier jobs.
is this grinder strong enough for flaxseeds?
helga m on Sep 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have not found this item useful in grinding anything I have tried to use if for. Nothing but a decorative object, now. Sorry!
Will it grind sugar to same fineness as store bought powdered sugar?
A shopper on Nov 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I used it for salt and pepper shaker. It did not ground either as finely as powdered sugar.
Can this be used with garlic?
Dennis W on Jun 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. This mill is meant to be used for dry spices.
