This mixer has turned me into a baker. It is easy to add ingredients. The depth of the mixing bowl means that messes are contained. It's easy to remove the mixing bowl. It's powerful, but when you set it to stir, it gently mixes. One caveat -- this mixer and the bowl are quite heavy. You'll want a permanent place for it on your counter rather than to move it from a cupboard to the counter.
I have been using KitchenAid Stand Mixers for over 50 years. I love the product quality and also use the attachments. I did love the idea of a glass mixing bowl. So my husband suggest I order this one. It also holds more than my earlier mixer. I will continue to use them both. This is one product that will last a lifetime.
I have used these wonderful stand mixers for many years. My first one was in the 1970s and I was making a very heavy whole-grain bread. I set it to knead and was going outside for just a few minutes, I got to talking with a neighbor and then realized instead of kneading for ten minutes, had left it for over an hour. Needless to say, I burned up the motor. My next mixer, I still have and use regularly. I just loved the larger size and the glass bowl so I ordered this new one. It is wonderful. I love the quality. The only drawback for some, might be that it is very heavy when filled with dough to lift and pour. So older people might like the lift head better with the smaller glass bowl. I do love it and it is a workhouse. Buyers can not go wrong. Perfect for wedding or first apartment gifts.
Had to return two mixers. Even with turning the adjustment screw as directed none of the beaters scrape the bottom of the bowl. Contents not mixed. Avoid this mixer!
I bake cookies, pies and love this blender. I do doule batches at a time and my arms would pay the price after a few different varities. Now everyone wants cookies for Christmas. And of course pies to. Prep time cut in Half, life is easier.
After much research, this was the mixer I selected, and I am so very glad I did so! It is such a tremendous workhorse. And the new Slate color matches my appliances! Merry Christmas to me!
I was very exited about this new mixer as I loved my older model that I passed onto my daughter in law. And, Yes it's pretty, but I haven't been impressed with this particular model. In my opinion the beaters have been made smaller to perhaps compensate for the GLASS bowl. I'm guessing that perhaps the makers didn't want to take a chance on them hitting and breaking the bowl and so (even after making the suggested clearance adjustment) the mixer still doesn't begin to come close enough to the bottom or the sides of the bowl to move my batter or dough around. KitchenAid is sending me a new bowl in hopes that it will solve this issue, but I am doubtful that it will solve anything. And I'll still have a very exspesive mixer that can't even do what my hand mixer can do!
I do a lot of food preserving, baking and candy-making. I have worn out three mixers over the years, one was an older Kitchenaid I received as a gift back in 1980. It was loud and I could not use it when my family was in the den (open concept den/kitchen). It finally gave up the ghost last holiday season and I told my family I wanted a new Kitchenaid mixer for Christmas. I received this model in CA red. It is the best machine I have ever used, including Kitchenaids I've used in classes. It doesn't vibrate even when making divinity and heavy bread doughs. It is so quiet my family hardly knows it's on when they are in the den. I can be using it and still converse with them. I can't say enough good things about this mixer. I have yet to truly test its motor. I have never heard it change its sound when going from thin to heavy batters or doughs. It's really a workhorse. This year, I asked for a spiralizer and a meat grinder for it, for Christmas. Looking forward to receiving some attachments for this awesome appliance. First thing I will do if I get the spiralizer is make a big batch of applesauce, which my family loves. I'm known, now, as Cookie Quick Finger because when my family wants fresh cookies, I can have some made in just a couple of hours.
I love kitchen aide - had my 4.5 tilt for 10 years but have been doing some serious cake baking and wanted the larger capacity and stronger motor. I read the reviews beforehand and saw that there was an issue reaching the bottom of the bowl but went anyway. Thought I saw a thread somewhere mentioning a possibly redesigned bowl. But I can't seem to find anything about that now. I want to love it. Am hoping to love it if I can just get that extra 3/8" lower. New bowl design??? Something, anything.
I purchased this a few weeks ago. Used it for the first time a week after I received it in the mail. Even purchased the attachment with the rubber scrapper. It don't reach the bottom of the mixing bowl. First batter I made all the dry was stuck on the bottom..and I thought I mixed it all. Had to pour the batter all back out of the pans. Just to make sure I got in there to scrap the bottom and mixed it all again. Which kind of over mixed the batter. :( With all the money I paid out it should have done the job right.
I have always wanted a stand mixer and was very excited to get this for my birthday. Upon registering my new mixer, I looked at all the reviews. Sure enough, the mixer does not incorporate all the ingredients; everything mixes on top, but I have to manually stir everything together. The little set screw does not fix this.
Using kitchenaids for years I bought this thinking it would be as amazing as all the others I have loved- however, not only is it a pain to use because the head does lift open which means every time you are trying make something you have to literally fight with the bowl because that's the only way out- it's so aggravating that I've used it twice, and honestly I would give this to someone for free- sorry, overpriced and under performance- bad combo.
I just purchased this mixer and wish I had purchased it much earlier. I had been using the Pro 600 mixer which is a great mixer also but the 6500 series mixer is incredibly better. It mixes quickly and thoroughly; i love the glass bowl which enables me to see if I need to scrape more--it's just wonderful. My only concern is that one has to remove the bowl to add flour or similar ingredients, but the usefulness and great results far outweigh that concern.
Bought this a couple months ago replacing a 30 year old classic Kitchen Aid mixer. So much better love using it. I had a silicon scraper and plastic cover used to pour in flour both are not available for this mixer that is disappointing.
This product lives up to its name. The appliance mixes effortlessly and consistently, allowing us to make technical recipes. The attachments are easy to remove and clean. The clear bowl makes it easy to see without peering over the side. It is well worth the price and would make this purchase again.
I have wanted a KitchenAid mixer for many years and due to the cost it was never something I could get. This past Christmas my mom bought me this mixer mainly I really needed it..I love to cook and bake and having the debilitating joint disease I'm not able to use my hands like I used to for mixing. I love the mixer because of its power however there are design flaws I wish that weren't there and since it's been a short time and I'm having some difficulties I may try to swap it out for the smaller version of the KitchenAid mixer. One of the problems is the attachments for mixing, you have to remove the attachment before you could even get the bowl out and when you go in there to remove the attachment you end up getting the attachment down in the bowl and whatever's in the bowl gets back all over the attachment and then getting your hands in it trying to get the attachment off and Ends up making more of a mess than worth. Why couldn't there have been an arm that swivels out or it tilts back to get the attachment off and the other thing is the glass is so heavy and I have a hard time lifting the glass bowl to be able to pour stuff,it's really hard trying to hold with one hand. Another thing I noticed a couple times of me making some cakes or cupcakes the mixer is not getting it all mixed and I'm having to go in there and mix it because there's powder still staying at the bottom of the bowl has anyone else had these problems ??
Like the other reviewers, I struggled with the glass bowl, to the degree I bought the accessory stainless steel one since the glass is preposterously heavy. The stand does NOT lift the beaters high enough, compared with the tilt-head type I used for 30 years. It does NOT properly scrape the sides. The ONLY positive I would give it, over the smaller model, is that with its beefier motor, it sounds less like it's going to die when mixing and kneading dough. That is just a non-starter for the smaller model, but I'm probably going to sell this one and buy a new smaller one, since for everyday use, the smaller model is a much easier to use device. Even then, I wish the bowl was not chrome on the outside, since it never looks clean.
Like others who have reviewed the 6500, I love the huge glass bowl, the power, the quiet. Unfortunately, I am very unhappy about the blade not reaching the bottom or sides of the bowl, even when adjusted to the absolute max. I was so excited to receive this product, but I cannot stop and scrape this many times. We don't have a ton of money, so this was a super special holiday gift, and you can't imagine my disappointment and that of my husband, who so wanted to give me the mixer of my dreams. I used my old KitchenAid mixer happily for almost 20 years and was looking forward to passing it on to my daughter. I just wanted the bigger glass bowl, and now look at what has happened. I can't even imagine what a pain it's going to be to return this gigantic item (we bought it online). Please don't send me your blanket response. Please don't ask me to post my review elsewhere. You obviously have a design problem with this product.
This was a gift I received about a month ago, including the pasta maker. Absolutely love this machine makes pasta dough in minutes, have made ziti and bucattini, nothing like fresh pasta. I really love the ability to make large batches of cookies, Can't wait for Christmas cookie time, will make it go so much faster, and more cookies for sharing.
My fiance bought this for me for my birthday two months ago and I LOVE IT!! I've made banana bread, ice cream (with my very first attachment :)), toppings for various pies, and much more. The quality of all of the parts is outstanding and the engine on this model is worth the extra money... It mixes with consistency and can handle any amount of batter, etc. that I need to mix at a time. All of the parts are very high quality and I know they will last me a long time as long as I take proper care of them. Cleaning takes way less time than I thought it would considering the larger size of everything - I can't put it in the dishwasher but hand washing the bowl and whichever attachment I use takes about a minute or less. I'm currently ordering more attachments (especially excited about the grain mill) but just the bowl has made baking so much easier since it does half the work for me while I can work on something else. Stop reading this review and go buy the mixer already!!
I received this mixer for my birthday, and I've used it just about everyday. The grinder is a wonderful attachment. I recommend everyone that enjoys baking go out and purchase one,it's worth every penny.
I previously owned the Artisan and while that was fine for light jobs, it lacked the power for mixing bread dough or anything heavy. This unit totally rocks with the larger motor and glass bowl!
This purchase replaced a 3 quart KitchenAid model as my desire to do more and different kinds of baking increased. My purchase included the grain mill accessory and does a perfect job of milling hard and soft wheat, barley and rye for breads, bagels and whole grain buns. The larger capacity bowl and more powerful motor give me more options on loaves of bread or numbers of bagels or buns I can make as well as driving the mill with little effort by the motor. The spiral dough hook takes some getting used to and a traditional dough hook option might be helpful. I would recommend the purchase of the Pouring Shield with any lift bowl size to assist in the introduction of ingredients to the bowl.
My husband and I make all types of cakes, pies, cookies, pasta, and sandwich spreads to list just a few. This mixer makes it so easy to have great results no matter what we are making
Last year, I decided to retire my older 475 watt mixer, of 22 years. I actually gave it to a friend and it's still going strong. My new, shiny red mixer arrived in Charlotte in perfect condition and ready to get to work. I bake bread. This 1 hp motor, with the spiral dough hook makes short work of double batch. No problems with blending ingredients and thorough mixing. Yes, it needed a few adjustments to start with and yes it is a bit noisy, but that the sound of power. It is a lot quieter than an underpowered machine, straining to do the same job. This is a big boy machine, the home version of a commercial mixer. It is not cute, it is a beast. I have numerous attachments I have collected over the years and they all fit perfectly. I have the stainless tulip bowl, which I recommend, versus the glass bowl. It is lighter and no constant worry about smacking it into the granite counter edge, because I know who will win.
So far I love this mixer. For bread dough, this model never bogged down or struggled in the least through various speed settings. Motor stayed reasonable cool through a 20 minute kneading cycle with about 24 ounces of dough. All done while talking with my spouse at normal conversation levels standing 5 feet away. It's really one of the quietest mixers I've ever used. Thanks
Took one star away from review for dough hook design. Although effective once the ingredients were incorperated, I had to stop and scrape the flour away from the bowl a couple of times to speed up the mixing process. The hook in my opinion sits just a bit too far away from the bottom and sides of the bowl. That's the only thing that made me feel that this mixer was not absolutely perfect in design and function.
Still, I highly recommend this to anyone wanting more power for heavy dough work and it's quiet DC motor is one of those things you really feel should not be a big deal, but notice right away.
After wanting a KitchenAid for years we finally took the plunge and bought one. We spent a lot of time researching the best fit for our uses. My husband makes a very hearty whole wheat bread so we wanted one that could handle the load and we have not been disappointed. The only concern is the weight of the bowl and how tricky it can be to snap it in to place with the stand. Overall, very happy with our purchase.
I have waited for years to purchase a KitchenAid mixer that I could afford. It is a great mixer but the paddle is not close enough to the bottom of the bowl. It doesn't mix and gather up the ingredients. I always have to stop it, take the bowl out, mix the ingredients on the bottom of the bowl into the batter, and put it back on the stand to have it fully mixed. Also, I don't understand why I have to stop the blender, put my hand into the bowl to take off the attachment in order to remove the bowl itself. I wish it lifted up a little so I this would be eliminated. Otherwise, it's a gorgeous piece of equipment.
This was a Christmas present that I "thought" I wanted. I loved my old Kitchen Aid. I do a lot of baking and cooking and thought this would be ideal. I'm disappointed in a few things. 1. The way the KA is set up makes it hard to get ingredients into the bowl. 2. The glass bowl is very heavy. Makes it hard to pour ingredients. 3. No options for a lighter weight bowl. Based on my previous KA I would have recommended to friends. I can't recommend this model for household use.
Passed our KitchenAid Mixer onto our newly married Son and Daughter in-law. So we went all out on the KitchenAid 6500 Artisan.
Instantly noticed having to scrape down the sides. When the wife finally mentioned this to me, we went to find out how to adjust the height. Maxed out the adjustment with really no difference in the action of the paddle blade. Still could not combine the ingredients.
Went the whole route of taking up KitchenAid on their offer to send a new bowl, even though we had our doubts that would fix the issue. We tried the replacement bowl that came and found there to be absolutely no difference.
Called KitchenAid back again and they agreed to send a replacement. We were hoping a different manufacturing batch might have resolved the issue. Today the new replacement mixer came and we fired it up again and found the same EXACT issue, the paddle is not close enough to the bottom of the bowl to gather up the ingredients to mix.
The mixer looks great, the DC motor is nice and quite... but it is even quitter never being used.
Upgraded to the more powerful, larger capacity KitchenAid for my home baking and cooking. Machine is a delight to use for everything from bread dough to cookies to pasta. With more power, and the clear glass bowl, my mixing needs are more efficient and effective. A solid workhorse, my shiny red new mixer is a welcome addition to my kitchen.
I absolutely LOVE this machine! It is a true work horse! The only thing I have difficulty in doing is scraping the bottom of the bowl while in action. Other than that, I love this mixer and would recommend it highly! Thank you Kitchen Aid!!!
I recently purchased this to upgrade from my 5+ year old KitchenAid Mixer and it did not disappoint. It's much quieter and more powerful than my old KitchenAid. Also upgrading from a 5 qt to a 6 qt was definitely beneficial too! Great Product!
A great mixer, does the job well, and is relatively quiet compared to the other models. My only complaint is it is hard to find the accessories that go with it as they don't list this model number. But otherwise, it is outstanding.
I love to bake and cook. Im not into expensive jewelries instead I always ask my husband to give me gifts for fancy gadgets in my kitchen, he gave me this for my birthday this past summer!
We "treated" ourselves to Consumer Reports highest rated stand mixer, the Kitchenaid Professional 6500. We could not be more pleased with our purchase. We've used it more often than we initially thought we would to make French bread, meat loaf, cookies, whatever--and we've had it for just two months. Our only regret is that we didn't buy this or a comparable mixer years ago. Too, the candy apple red color certainly adds to our cooking fun.
I purchased this over a month ago. I am very happy with how mixer performs. Egg whites whipped up perfectly. Pretty logical and intuitive to use. I had no problems and really appreciated how simple the mixer functioned like it was suppose to work.
I wrote a detailed review last month. This mixer replaced an old Kitchen Aid that had stopped working from heavy use. Upgraded to this 1 HP motor. Absolutely glad I did the upgrade. See previous review for details.
My husband and three kids surprised me on my 40th birthday with this beauty. Immediately I opened up my cookbook and made double batches of cookies and bread. The mixer is wonderful! The motor is a power house without causing the mixer to jump around. The glass mixing bowl is a breath of fresh air. I love to be able to see everything come together right before my eyes. Over all the best birthday gift yet!
Received this as a gift for Christmas. I am in LOVE. I can do so much with it. I can make so many more cookies in this mixer than my old one. (Which was NOT a kitchenaid). And now I am excited to get my new attachments to try new and exciting things.
I BOUGHT THIS MIXER FOR ONE COOKIE DOUGH THAT NO OTHER MIXER COULD MIX. I USE THIS ALL THE TIME. I LIKE IT SO MUCH I JUST BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE. ALSO BOUGHT ALOT OF DIFFERENT ATTACHEMENTS.
I've had this for two months now, and it has exceeded my expectations. Solid, tough, and easy to use. I've used it for cakes, cookies, and general baking. I just got the grain mill attachment, and I'm looking forward to milling grain for homemade bread.
We don't buy bread products or baked goods from the store, so I am using this mixer almost every day. I had an Artisan KitchenAid mixer for the last 7 years and it finally died, but with so much baking I knew I needed larger capacity and a more powerful motor. I've had this mixer for a few weeks and so far I am very happy with it. I can make 3 hefty loaves of bread at a time and the machine does not struggle at all. It is a little noisy and I do find the heavier glass bowl a bit of an adjustment from the stainless steel bowl I am used to. The rubber seal around the metal ring that is part of the docking system has already been torn up, but it doesn't appear to affect the function so far.
I have always had a Kitchenaid Mixer with the 3.25 motor and 4.5 quart bowl. I decided to try the stronger motor with the larger bowl since I am currently building a new home and can have my cabinets customized to handle the larger size.
I decided on the 6-quart. Then it was down to the pro 600 or the 6500. I chose the 6500 because it had a stronger motor (and the glass bowl) even though it holds 1 cup less of flour. The motor won me over.
I wanted a bigger horsepower mixer and the larger glass bowl capacity than the current Kitchen Aide mixer I have now. I LOVE Kitchen Aid!...and I got the same beautiful red that I have now!
I have tried to do my research to pick the best product... I love to make bread so wanted something powerful enough to handle kneading. And when I saw that Consumer Report rated this mixer #1.... that did it for me. Hope I love it! (Have never owned a stand mixer so can't wait to give it a try!)
This model had the best reviews with repeated comments about having a powerful, yet quiet motor. I need a mixer that will be able to handle heavy cookie doughs and bread.

As a professional chef and restaurant owner I have used the Kitchen Aid Professional Series for years. It never fails, and if used properly is an essential piece of equipment that my chefs cannot do without.

One of my greatest passions is baking. I got the 6500 series because I usually make a minimum of 3 cookie batches at a time and I needed a mixer that doesn't complain during the hard mixing. This mixer does the job. Love the cherry red color and it makes me happy to see it sitting on my counter.

What is the difference between the 6500 Series Stand Mixer and the Artisan Stand Mixer? There is a $200 difference and I am wondering why I would want to splurge on the 6500 Series versus the standard Artisan one?

KitchenAid® Artisan Stand Mixer, 5 qt.
BEST ANSWER:Great question, it depends greatly on the jobs that you are going to ask the machine to do. If you are making double batches of cookies, large amounts of bread dough...you would want to consider the larger 6500. It has a bigger bowl and a more powerful motor. The 6500 also has the lift/lower feature for the bowl versus the tilting head on the Artisan. Hope that helps. Either way, you will own your KitchenAid for the rest of your life.

The 6500 series has a much greater capacity for production and also offers an entire horsepower for the motor than the original artisan stand mixer. If you plan on using it a lot and are worried about burning out the motor and making bigger batches, then I would recommend going with the 6500 series.
To be quite honest, I am not really sure other than one is a 6 quart glass bowl versus a 5 quart metal bowl and also the way they lift bowl. One lifts the bowl and the other lifts the head up
What is the difference between this 6500 mixer and the Pro-Line 7 quart. Besides the capacity, what is the difference between the two? Trying to decide whether the price difference is worth it.
BEST ANSWER:I see 3 differences between the two mixers. The 6500 has 1. horse power and a smaller bowl which is glass. The Proline 7 qt. has 1.3 horsepower, the larger stainless steel bowl (which I like) and it also comes with a 2 yr. warranty, which is always good. I'm happy my Proline mixer. Hope this helps you.
