Works Great - Poor Craftsmanship
I love how fine this sieve is and how well it allows me to sift my flour and sugar for baking. The only bad thing about this item is that the handle came off after the third or fourth use. Otherwise, this would have been a five star product. I will need to call Sur La Table and see if I can exchange it for another one and make use of their life time warranty on this product.

Handy Fine Mesh Strainer
This is a convenient strainer for foods needing a very fine mesh, or for skimming bits out of soup while cooking.

I have a number of these in various sizes and find them so handy. They wash up well, store easy, and do the trick for every job.

Does the measurement include the ring around the sieve of just the mesh?
Susan B on Nov 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It includes the ring.
What type of stainless steel are they made of?
A shopper on Mar 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I'm so sorry I wish I could help you out, I bought the sieve for a shower
so I'm really not sure.
Are these strainers fine mesh or coarse mesh?
Mary D on Jan 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: They are fine mesh. Great for draining anything from large to small. Mine is fairly new but I've used it for draining chickpeas and washing quinoa. I really like them.
How are the handles attached?
Deron on Jan 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: looks like welded metal
Are these strainers "hands free"? In other words, can I place on a bowl to use both hands to strain or sift?
A shopper on May 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Although these strainers are hands-free, you can rest the strainer on the top of a bowl and still use hands free for straining vegetables, etc. Dry ingredients might need an assist with the handle to complete the job.
Is this good for chicken stock? Is the mesh fine enough?
Beth G on Jul 27, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes they have a very fine mesh great for straining solids out of many types of liquids clean up easily also.
Do food particles get stuck around the rim of the sieve, in between the rim and the sieve? I have one that looks similar and this is a large design flaw.
A shopper on Oct 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I also have an old sieve that has a problem with food getting under the rim. It drove me crazy. I have had no problems with food particles under the rim with my Sur La Table sieve. I love it.
Could I place this in bowling water in a saucepan, add quinoa or something, and cook food in it while water boils in saucepan?
A shopper on Mar 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I suppose you could as the sieves are sturdy enough, but they are also quite shallow so the water level in your saucepan would have to be so high as to cause a safety hazard. In other words, you could, but I wouldn't.
What is the total length of this strainer?
A shopper on Jan 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We purchased the strainer that is roughly, in total, 12 and a half inches long. The handle is approximately 6 and a half inches long. We've been really happy with this product!
What is the size of the mesh part of the
strainer?
A shopper on Feb 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 8" diameter
