Description
No single ingredient is more important to the success of a dish than salt. Keep your favorite salt right at your fingertips with this handsome salt pig made from durable Burgundy clay. The durable, attractive exterior glaze is resistant to both scratching and chipping, is free of both lead and cadmium, and will not craze, discolor or fade over time. Well designed and handy
Stores a good amount to last for a few months of daily use. The opening is large enough for my hand and fingers to fit in easily. I really appreciate the angle of the opening, which makes it easier to grab inside. When I need a fair amount of salt to put into a dish, I've gotten good at just holding the salt pig over and sprinkling just the right amount directly in. This is one of my favorite kitchen items!

I am about to order one..... what is the difference between flour and sugar colors? TY, Marc
BEST ANSWER: The salt pig I ordered was "flour", which was white (and what my daughter-in-law wanted). I can't say what "sugar" looks like. Perhaps Emile Henry can help you.

where do you find lids for these containers?
BEST ANSWER: Well, the whole point of the Salt Pig is expedited convenience. No lids are desired for the Salt Pig.
Salt and Pepper are two of the most widely used condiments in preparing meals. Almost everything
uses these to ingredients to some extend. It's very convenient to just pinch as much S & P as needed
without having to find and use the shakers until the desired amount is dispensed.
I suppose you could find some type of Tupperware or lid for these but it defeats their original intent and use.

Is it safe (from bugs) to store black pepper in an open salt pig as well?
BEST ANSWER: I don't have a certain answer for pepper, since I've only used my salt pig for salt. I'd generally think that pepper is a natural repellent, but I might be wrong. I think the open salt pig would just diminish the "freshness' of any cracked pepper.
