Had it for 5 days and have made pasta twice!
I've never made homemade pasta before, but I can't imagine it gets easier than this! You measure out the ingredients (I used a scale since the recipes are in metric. It comes with it's own measuring cups specific for the recipes, but I needed a scale anyway) and put the dry ingredients in first, start the machine and slowly pour in the liquid through the holes in the lid, wait a few minutes and pasta starts coming out! Enough pasta for 4+ people in 15 minutes! Made it with my 12 year old niece…she loved it. Easy clean up, freeze the extrusion disc prior to washing so the dough comes out easy with the cleaning tool.

I just got this today and made my first batch of pasta - it was wonderful and very easy. Start to clean up was about one hour total - it will probably be around 1/2 hour once I get more familiar. I hope to use this quite often and freeze pasta and avoid store bought dried.

Love this pasta maker
Very easy to make pasta with, and fresh is superior to dried. have made variations, regular, egg, squid ink pasta, specialty flour pasta. It all worked well with some attention to the moisture content. This machine prefers a rather dry mix.
Need more extruders, hopefully they will be coming soon. I use the lasagna setting to make a flat wide ribbon to use to make ravioli. Lots of fun to use, quick and makes delicious pasta.

So Easy
I've made pasta by hand and with an Atlas in a Sur La Table cooking class and fell in love with the taste of fresh pasta. I've tried it a few times now and I'm most impressed with how easy this cleans. I suggest a scale as the recipes it comes with has ingredients in grams, and a pasta dough recipe is very temperamental to ratios (my first attempt was a sad runny disaster, but cleaned up easy!) I now start boiling the water at the same time I turn the machine on and the timing is perfect. Highly recommended for pasta lovers!

Outstanding Pasta Machine
I've owned the Philips Pasta Maker for over six months. It is absolutely marvelous and never fails to make great pasta. I've made spaghetti, linguine, lasagna noodles and penne. I buy semolina pasta most of the time and make my pasta without eggs. You will not be disappointed.

Works like its supposed too...Used it 3 times so far and as long as you follow the recipe, it works like a charm. My dinner guests have raved over the difference in taste and texture, when I use reds semolina/pasta flour combined with some all purpose. Great bite and wonderful flavor from the eggs. I buy lots of great kitchen tools and this one is currently at the top of my list. Love it!..easy to clean, too.

Amazing pasta maker
I love this machine. The most important requirement is to measure and weigh the ingredients. The pasta only takes 10 minutes to mix and extrude. So far, I have only made egg noodles, but plan to try others. It's also really quick and easy to clean the machine. A really fun new appliance.

Just needs a few things to reach perfection
I bought the smart version of this pasta maker and really like it as it weighs out all the dry and liquid ingredients perfectly. My only gripe is that there is no programmed rest period. Yea, I know the dough needs to go into the frig for the rest, but trying to get the dough out of the machine to let it rest is a pain in my back side. I found that not letting the dough rest made for a much tougher pasta. It didnt come out as beautifully as the dough I let rest and then put through my KA pasta roller and cutter. The other negative is that no Asian noodle die are included. The models in other countries have those die, but the American market machine does not. I looked online to buy them but they won't fit in my machine, ugh. The coated
mixing/extruding blade is coated with something that I'm afraid will easily scratch and flake off into my pasta, eventually. On the positive, I did make three back to back batches of tagliatelle very quickly, the mix function can be bypassed so hand made or rested dough can be put in just to extrude it, the machine is incredibly quiet, and easy to clean. I will keep this machine, only I will go through the hassle of removing the dough to let it rest.

For all of you fresh pasta lovers
Making fresh pasta is a breeze thanks to this machine. Measure your ingredients with great care. I only gave it four stars because you have to manually move the last bits of dough towards the press, otherwise a lot of dough can be wasted. Or use the unprocessed dough for manual pasta making. Still a great buy.

How wide are the lasagna noodles? I want to know if they will fit my ravioli mold.
A shopper on Feb 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This makes lasagna noodles about 2- 2 1/4" in diameter.
Can i use this machine to make gluten free pasta?
larisa b on Feb 5, 2015
The Japanese version comes with dies for udon, ramen and soba. Are these dies available in U.S. Or are they the same ones with different noodle names?
A shopper on Jul 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I've used this frequently for several months now and love it. Just add flour, water, and egg (optional) and the machine kneads and extrudes the various shapes of pasta. Disassembly, cleanup, and re-assembly is very easy. My Phillips Pasta Maker came with Penne, Spagetti, Fettuccine, and Lasagna/Dumpling extrusion dies.
Pjhillips also offers additional Pasta Maker Shaping Disc package for about $50 tha adds Angwel Hair, Thick Spaghetti, Tagliatelle, and Pappardelle shaping disc.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Dwayne Frey
How much pasta can be made at a time ?
A shopper on Feb 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: program 1 makes 10.5 oz
program 2 makes 21 oz.
just purchased a week ago and have made both penne and spaghetti - love this machine
How difficult is this to clean?
Patricia K on Feb 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This machine is very easy to clean. I would say the best advice I have found is freezing the extrusion disk in the freezer prior to washing. the dough is easier to get out of the little pasta holes with the cleaning tool after you freeze it prior to washing.
Can I use discs from my old Pasta Maker that no longer works? I have a gnocchi disc.
A shopper on Apr 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Certainly try! I have never had a pasta machine prior to the Phillips. All of the discs are made to fit inside a screw in ring, so don't know if it would match up, but worth a try. We LOVE our machine!! I can never see us purchasing premade pasta ever again!!
Do you have to dry the pasta before you can cook it?
A shopper on Nov 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. It is best to make it a day before and put it in a paper bag in the refrigerator. If you use it the same day, let it rest 30 minutes after extrusion, then drop into boiling water. I put a bit of olive oil in the water to reduce the tendency of the strands to stick together.
It will cook quickly, depending on the thickness of the pasta, sometimes in less than a minute.
Can I use my own pasta recipes?
dana m on Mar 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The recipe book that comes with the machine says: "If you experiment with or use other pasta recipes, the flour and water/egg ratios will need to be adjusted to the flour and water cup ratios included with the pasta maker. The pasta maker will not operate successfully without adjusting the new recipe accordingly."
I haven't yet made fresh pasta but I thought the dough requires a 30 minute rest before rolling or shaping. If the Phillips appliance takes 10 minutes from start to extrusion, obviously the dough is not being rested, yet reviewers say the resulting pastas are very good. So does the dough require resting or not?
Barbara I on Jul 19, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The machine does everything automatically in a short time and does not include a resting time. I have found the machine makes decent pasta, however the pasta I make using a classic hand crank machine with a dough that has been allowed to rest, is much better. The texture in the machine does not stand up to the texture using a classic method, but it is fast. On that note, I have a achieved the best results using a mixture of white and semolina flour to make an egg based pasta. There is a good recipe in the Wolfgang Puck pizza pasta and more cookbook. I hope that helps.
Are there more discs available for purchase?
A shopper on Nov 9, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes there are more discs that can be purchased thru Philips. The additional discs make angel hair pasta,
pappardelle and tagliatelli pastas
can you make asian noodles?
A shopper on Mar 24, 2015
BEST ANSWER: the instruction manual that comes with this machine calls for only using gluten flour recipes. There are recipes for making udon, soba and ramen noodles in the recipe book. If you are wanting to make rice flour noodles, I'm not sure they would hold up since rice flour noodles tend to fall apart more easily.
Is there a recipe that uses only semolina flour?
JERRY B on Aug 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the recipe for curry noodles recommends using either all purpose or semolina flour. However I would always add a little all purpose flour, it helps with the gluten, which makes the noodles less crumbly...
Can I make healthy pasta eg: whole wheat pasta?
A shopper on Mar 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I believe so. We have been experimenting with gluten free pasta and found that some of the gf flour mixes contain a large amount of cornstarch and this affects the moisture ratio and has to be adjusted or the machine won't extrude and shows an "error" message. We found that adding 2 egg yolks to the liquid in the recipe solved the problem. So depending upon the whole wheat flour you use, you may have to add additional moisture to achieve the same results you get with white flour. I would experiment until you get the consistency you want.
Are there recipes included with the unit?
Mary Beth on Dec 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, There are a lot of recipes to make different kinds of noodles, such as wheat pasta, ramen, durum pasta, dumpling sheet, udon, lasagna. And how to make them to delicious dishes
Is it worth the trouble to make fresh pasta? Is fresh really that much better than dried? You can buy a ton of dried pasta for the same price.
A shopper on Aug 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That depends on how often you like pasta and if you like to cook rather than purchase pre made ingredients. Yes, dried pasta is cheap and easy but my experience with this machine has been great. The pasta can be tailored to your individual taste and since it is fresh, it not only cooks quicker and tastes better but it is more filling than dried. The machine cleans up fairly easily and just doesn't take that much effort to prepare a batch of pasta.
Can you make whole grain pasta ?
A shopper on Mar 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have used unbleached flour and find that it needs a tad more water. The first time I added 1 egg and water according to the water requirements for white flour and it was hard so it got stuck. The second time, I used 2 eggs instead of one and added 1 to 2 TBSP more water to the recipe and nothing got stuck and the pasta churned it out smoothly. If you are not using eggs, you will need much more water, Watch the consistency when you make white flour pasta and then adjust the water input as it continues to churn in the machine until you see the right consistency.
Can I use rice flour?
A shopper on Feb 10, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I have used semolina flour ( use recipe on the package) and unbleached flour. Both requires a bit more water than white flour. I did use 2 eggs and water mixture for both. With one egg, the pasta is harder.
I have yet to try rice flour but I think it may be possible. The key may be to have the right liquid amount.
can you make pierogi dough?
A shopper on Apr 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can make lasagna sheets. Perhaps you can make pierogi's from that?
Any recipes for Spinach pasta with this machine?
A shopper on Jan 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The recipe book that comes with the machine includes recipes for carrot, tomato paste, beet, spinach, fennel and herb pasta.
Is there an attachment for angel-hair pasta available?
A shopper on Apr 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, there isn't. The only available attachments are the ones that come with the machine.
Do you have it in colors at Sur La Table? I seen it in green, beige, sky blue and red somewhere else
Giuliana C on Mar 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, this is the only one we carry.
