Is plastic inside the pot BPA free or not?
I just purchased the KEK1222 electric kettle. I haven't even tried it yet. Love the style and that it is mostly stainless steel. I'm still searching on line to find the answer many have asked re: whether the plastic filter frame and housing inside the pot is BPA free or not? Why can't someone from KitchenAid just be up front and directly answer the question? This a concern that numerous people have brought up in their reviews. If it's not BPA free is KitchenAid addressing this? Otherwise, it's a great little kettle.

Big chunk of plastic inside. Returning it.
Kettle makers, wake up! People don't want daily ingestion of water boiled in contact with plastics! Plastic filter is removable but huge plastic bracket is not.

Great little kettle - cute too...
I have had this kettle for about 6 months now. I use it every day, multiple times per day, as I make iced tea, hot tea, and warm up the cup when I make coffee, so it gets a lot of use. It boils water very fast, and shuts off when it's boiled, which I really like. It's sleek looking (mine is Stainless steel ) and has an appealing 'retro' look about it. I couldn't be happier and recommend it highly. I liked it so much I bought another as a gift for a fellow tea lover. You won't go wrong if you decide to purchase this kettle.

Love my kettle!
This is a great little kettle. It heats up a cup of water for my tea in less time than the microwave can do it and a lot faster than a traditional stove top kettle. It's very pretty too. Another thing I like is that it clicks itself off. I've burned a few traditional kettles dry and ruined them through the years from running outside to check on child because I couldn't hear the whistle. Won't happen with this kettle. Some people have made a big deal about the "plastic" inside. First all, at least two cups of water are below the plastic, and even if not, Kitchen Aid said that it is BPA free. I think we have far more to worry with the toxicity in our environment everyday, everywhere, than the chance of a tiny amount from a little plastic while heating up a cup of water once or twice a day! Seriously! The kettle arrived sooner than expected, was packaged very well, and the kettle was in perfect shape. I am very pleased with every part of my order.

I don't know why I didn't buy this years ago. Great quality. Nice looking for the counter. We use it everyday now. Great for a quick morning cup of tea, french press coffee or hot chocolate. Heats very quickly. Stays warm and shuts off automatically so I don't worry about leaving it on. Love it!

Not great product for money spent
I usually drink 3 or more cups tea a day, so i bought this tea kettle thinking it would be great. After less than 6 months its already rusted inside and the bottom has stopper that have fallen off bottom where goes on to warming base and water no longer gets hot but lukewarm. Now i spent all this money and have look for new one already. Not impressed, very dissatisfied with product.

I use this kettle at least twice a day and love it. It is fast and the water stays hot for quite a while. It looks great in the counter top, too. I am delighted that it has a short cord!

does the handle get hot.?is the cord at the bottom of the round object ?.how many cups to the pot?
kathleen m on Feb 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The handle does not get hot. (The lid does get somewhat hot, as do the sides.) The cord is attached to the round black base - there is a short length of cord stored underneath and a spot where it emerges from the side. It holds a little more than 6 measured cups.
Is this Kettle made in the U.S.A. or China?
John F on Feb 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Made in China
Does the water touch plastic or silicone?
susan s on Feb 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the pouring filter is plastic & metal.
Can I wash the pot easily without getting any electrical components wet?
A shopper on Jul 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can, but you can't really immerse the pot completely in water. There is a small outlet on the bottom of the kettle where the 'burner' that it sits on 'plugs in'. But it is easy to wash - just fill up the inside with water and wash and rinse, and I wipe the outside with a wet cloth. It is a great kettle by the way - I use it many times throughout the day, every day, to heat up water for tea, to warm up cups for coffee, and it is always very fast to boil water, and very quiet. I love it and I would recommend it highly. I have the stainless steel one and it's very sleek looking , kind of has a 'retro' look. You will love it if you decide to purchase it.
Is there a water level indicator on it?
A shopper on Jan 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, but you simply have to open the top and look. Overall, it is a small kettle but high quality and looks beautiful. Perfect for on my desk in my office actually!
Is the interior stainless or aluminum?
A shopper on Jan 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Not certain but the kettle appears to be all one piece, not with a separate interior and it appears to be stainless

And it works very well

And is fun, visually
Does this kettle have a safety feature that automatically turns it off after a certain time frame?
A shopper on Jan 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It automatically turns off when the water is at boiling point.
