Durable, timeless glassware—made in France since 1945.
Description
This collection of bowls is named after the Lys river because of its clarity, simplicity, utility and beauty—all characteristics of the river that runs through France and Belgium. A terrific set to use every day, these impact- and chip-resistant glass bowls are extremely durable and versatile. Suitable for hot and cold liquids, Duralex bowls are safe for the dishwasher, freezer and microwave. Plus, the collar on the rim allows the bowls to nest within each other to save cupboard space. Set includes 1-oz., 2-oz., 4-oz., 7-oz., 10-oz., ½-qt., 1-qt., 1½-qt., 2½-qt. and 3½-qt. size bowls.
Since 1945, the Duralex factory in France has pioneered the production of tempered glass —a durable, nonporous material that’s two-and-a-half times stronger than any ordinary glass. Thanks to shatterproof construction, if broken, the glass becomes small chunks instead of jagged shards—so cleanup is safe and easy. As pretty as it is practical, Duralex is the glassware of choice for hotels and restaurants around the world.

Work perfectly in the microwave
Despite the previous review, these bowls are perfectly safe and appropriate for microwave use. The prior reviewer is apparently unable to distinguish between the bowl reacting to microwave energy and heat transfer by conduction from the contents of the bowl. They're glass, and glass conducts heat from hot contents. Yes, you will have to use potholders or mitts just as you would with anything but an insulating material

"Great Product, Substantial"
These bowls are a must for any cook. They are my favorite prep bowls and liked them so much, I even purchased a second set. They are tough, nest for storage and I can toss them in the dishwasher. Don't let the fact that they are glass fool you, these are thick and strong. I can't suggest these enough

The only way these could be better: More bowls
We got a set of these bowls because my wife thought they'd be useful. I was a little skeptical I try to be a kitchen minimalist, and figured our cereal bowls worked OK. Why go for a whole set?
She was right, I was wrong. These have been incredibly useful. I probably use them while preparing 2/3 of the meals we make at home.
They've held stir-fry vegetables before cooking, spices before adding to a dish, baking ingredients, eggs (beaten and unbeaten), and more.
We've even used the larger bowls as serving pieces.
There's just one thing that could make these better: More bowls, especially some of the smaller sizes. But the good news is you can buy them individually

My go-to bowls for everything
I am SO glad that I bought this set. No more mismatched plastic and silicone bowls. They are so versatile -- mixing, prepping, serving, & baking. I even use the large one to hold bread dough while waiting for it to rise, or inverting it to temporarily cover pasta dough while I work with my pasta maker. When I don't feel like digging for my trifle bowl, I've also used the larger bowls for layered dips, desserts & salads. Durable against my electric hand mixer, wire whisks, and clunking around when stacking back into my cupboard -- no chips or cracks to date. Clean up is a breeze, whether by hand or in the dishwasher. Grab yourself a set; you won't be disappointed

Throw your hat over the fence!
I credit these bowls, and my initial set of All-Clad cookware for getting me started as a cook. These are a fantastic value, incredibly useful for mise en place / prep work, mixing, dough-rising, storing leftovers, serving as a fruit bowl, and they're even attractive enough for serving. Best of all, if you hate to stop to wash a bowl so you can use it for something else, this set offers so many similar sizes, that you can just pick another bowl, and keep cooking without missing a beat!
Strong recommend, whether as a treat for yourself, or a gift for someone just starting out

My favorite bowls!
I had put this set of bowls on my Christmas list, and was very excited to receive them from my in-laws! Both my husband and I use them every day from mixing dough to storing leftovers. The smaller sizes are perfect for organizing ingredients. We love them so much that we are planning on buying another set

I Don't Know Why
it took me so long to order these. Guess I never noticed them before. Every kitchen should have at least one set. Two would be even better.
I use these mostly for mise en place and melting small amounts in the microwave. They're just so handy! I'm keep coming up with new uses for them all the time.
Get rid of all those mismatched plastic dollar store bowls right now. Order these. You need them. You'll never know how much until you get them

25 years and still perfect
I bought these bowls approximately 25 years ago, use at least one of them almost every day, and they are still in excellent condition. I paid much more than this back then, but they were worth every penny. I absolutely love them. I'm always worried that I may accidentally break one, and am happy to see they are still available.

Can you use in the oven?
BEST ANSWER: Actually, Duralex says they are not oven safe. They have a special oven-safe line you can buy, but I'm not sure if Sur la Table carries it.

Stacked all the bowls inside each other on top of the counter and went to bed. Was shocked to see in the morning that the smallest bowl evidently exploded and shattered during the night scattering glass all over the counter. I took pictures because I couldn’t believe it. Has this ever happened to anyone else before?
BEST ANSWER: We use these bowls every day. They go in the dishwasher, microwave, etc. The only time one broke was because a small one dropped into the garbage disposal and we didn't know until we turned it on. Wasn't pretty picking glass out of there. Sorry to hear you had an issue. Was the bowl that broke tight down in another bowl? You know how water glasses sometimes break when stacked.

I realize these do not come with lids, however, does anyone know of lids that will fit Duralex bowls? Lids would be SO handy especially if available separately so customers could chose the size(s) they wanted.
