Description

Perfect for light, fluffy soufflés, moist, airy omelets and more, this copper balloon whisk is an essential tool in any serious cook’s collection. As copper comes in contact with egg whites, its molecules bond with the egg proteins, making them more pliable and able to expand without rupturing. This makes it easy to form emulsions that stabilize quickly for fluffier peaks and better results when cooking, so you can spend less time whisking and more time eating. A single copper whisk is a cost-effective alternative to multiple copper bowls.

Great whisk!
This whisk is a perfect addition to any kitchen. It's not only elegant enough to display, but it performs as described. It's unique, and eliminates the need to expensive copper bowls that take up a lot of storage space. I would recommend this product to anyone that enjoys baking, or even just wants to make a better omelet.

What a Whisk!
We found this cleverly designed whisk to be an indispensable item in our kitchen. Since using this copper phenom on in preparation for multiple dishes, we retired our outdated forks and steel whisks. In our kitchen, copper rules now! Thanks to Sur La Table for making it available. Kudos to the inventor!

For copper's "magical" ability to whip egg whites into the best meringue! Plus, it is made in the USA and is of very good quality.

Will it scratch a copper bowl?
A shopper on Apr 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Enter an answer to this question.Over heavy use and time, a patina will form from the action of copper against copper, but not scratches as in a gouge or etching. It's more akin to a light "brushed" look which I do not find to be objectionable (and I'm usually a fanatic about keeping my copper spotless!). The slight markings are negligible; when then compared to the recipe results they become inconsequential. Best advice would be to choose what's more important: the resulting food product or keeping a pristine copper bowl. If an unmarred bowl is your goal, there are myriad choices for silicone coated whisks, just accept the consequences of science if you choose that route. Another bonus to this copper whisk is that it is made in the USA! Best of luck to you and, as best said by Jacques Pepin, "Happy Cooking!".
Does the copper have a coating that will need to be removed before use?
A shopper on Jan 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The whisk does not appear to have a coating, nor is there any mention of one in the packaging for special "before first use" cleaning (just the standard hand wash in warm, soapy water). Please note that like all natural, untreated copper, this whisk will develop a green patina and will require polishing from time to time to return to its original condition. You didn't ask, but I'd like to add that the whisk is well made and appears it will last for generations with good care.
If used for whisking whole eggs for scrambled eggs or for omelettes, does that improve the results? (Question refers to the French copper whisk, and any of the copper whisks.)
A shopper on Aug 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: As compared to what - egg whites only? I'm not sure. I bought this for my partner and she uses it for whole eggs only. (She makes scrambled eggs, omelettes, etc.) Her feedback is that it's better than any other whisk she's used and she uses it often. Hope this helps!
For those who have owned this whisk for awhile, does it tarnish and have you needed to polish it yet? I can't imagine how frustrating it'd be to remove tarnish from the individual copper strands. Thanks!
A shopper on Nov 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have had the whisk for approx. for a year and and a half and it still looks great!
Are the whisks themselves (excluding handles) 100% copper, or is there another material underneath which is then plated with copper? (I’ve noticed this happening more and more—I almost bought a set of copper (dry) measuring cups at Sur La Table when I noticed the copper had flaked off, revealing stainless steel below.) Thanks for your help!

BEST ANSWER: The copper of the tines is metallurgically bonded (not plated), so it can't flake off. Flake off can happen with items that are plated, but that will not happen with this whisk.
