Great ice cream maker
I should have purchased this one sooner. Making ice cream with this maker is so easy and fun! I've made vegan ice cream with hemp milk; vanilla chocolate chip ice milk, chocolate, chocolate chip; and today will make rocky road. Just follow the directions in the recipe book and your ice cream will turn our perfect. So far the recipes have been done in about 12 minutes! Keeping the bowl frozen in the freezer is easy, so ice cream can be ready quickly. It runs pretty quietly, easy to use and easy to clean. I would highly recommend this ice cream maker! Next phase: yogurt and gelato!

Makes Ice Cream in a Short Time
The only negative thing about this machine is the noise. Other than that, it makes great ice cream in a hurry. (20 minutes or less!) Be careful of the recipes in the book. For example, made the vanilla recipe and it spilled out while turning. A bit too much liquid. Looking forward to making peach ice cream in the late summer months when Colorado peaches are available!

Great Ice Cream Maker!
As soon as I got the machine I made the pineapple sorbet that was in the recipe booklet. It was delicious. Everyone at my dinner party enjoyed it. The machine is easy to use and the recipe booklet has great recipes. Best purchase ever!

Awesome!
I know some of the reviews say this is loud and while it is a bit noisy, it is absolutely awesome! My ice cream has turned out so fabulously each time, my whole family just loves it!!! What I like the best, is the fact that I know exactly what is in my ice cream. Only the best products. No artificial ingredients at all. We have made mint chocolate chip, vanilla bean, chocolate chocolate chip and strawberry. Buy this ice cream maker, you will never regret it! Thank you Cuisinart!

Super Ice Cream Maker
I love this ice cream maker very much. I've made several batches of ice cream using different candies and cookies. Every batch has turned out wonderfully and been enjoyed by friends and family. I would recommend this Cuisinart product without any reservations.

"I scream, you scream," this is an ice cream lover's dream!
This is the most enjoyable + functional appliance. I bought it so that I could make super fresh, super natural, low calorie desserts. I love ice cream and frozen yogurt, but ready-made is always so high calorie. Having the option to make frozen desserts that are healthy and flavorful is a dream. You'll wish you had a much bigger freezer and extra freezer bowls. I've already made the blueberry frozen yogurt and the chocolate sorbet, and they were divine. I added more blueberries and more cocoa powder/chips for added flavor intensity and everything turned out great. Next up: pineapple sorbet, mango frozen yogurt, and plain, low fat vanilla ice cream with ginger bits mixed in at the end. This is such a fun addition to my summer ritual.

My one wish is that the manual/cookbook offered a generic "recipe" formula so that we could improvise beyond things like swapping blackberries for blueberries, so that I could make something like a watermelon-mint or kiwi-strawberry sorbet. I would love to understand the "why" behind "fresh or frozen" pineapple, rather than canned. I suspect there's some chemistry behind these choices and proportions and would like to understand more.

Very good product
It's all in good working order. The only negative comment is as previous reviews have mentioned: it is extremely noisy. The first time I used it I had it in the kitchen and we could hear it all over the house. Now I use it in the basement. Not the most convenient solution.

Traded in the Old for the New
Love this machine. I traded in a very old Cuisineart ice cream maker for this, and couldn't be happier.

Fabulous ice cream maker!
After years of making ice cream with the old-style ice and salt routine that was not only tedious, but never seemed to turn out right, I decided to try the "modern" way of making ice cream. Wow, am I thrilled! This machine makes fabulous ice cream EVERY batch and no salt or ice mess. It is easy to use, easy to clean and I keep the bowl in the freezer at all times so when we want to make a batch it is ready. Actually, I ordered a second freezer bowl so I could make two batches in a row. A couple of suggestions might help. I downloaded the recipes from the Cuisinart Pure Indulgence ice cream maker, which has a few different ones to try along with the one you get with this one. They are both 2 quart machines. Personally I prefer the ice cream recipes with the cooked eggs/cream mixture, such as "The Rich Vanilla Bean Ice Cream", as I found the "Simple Vanilla Ice Cream" to be more like ice milk, but that is personal preference. I also bought the Tovolo easy scoop ice cream containers and love them. The only downside is you need two as they are only 1-1/2 quart size. This is a great size for the two of us as it makes plenty. It is nice to know what is in your ice cream and since most store-bought ones are very high in sodium, you will be happy to see there is very little in the recipes here. I will also say, the recipes in the booklets are easy to follow and use ingredients that are easily found. The other recommendation is to chill your ice cream mixture thoroughly. It definitely helps. As I said, this this thing is fabulous!

How does this differ from their regular ice cream maker?
A shopper on Apr 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The Gelateria has presets to control churning speed & texture. The original Ice Cream & Sorbet makers does not.
What do the buttons on the front marked ice cream, gelato and sorbet really do? I notice no difference in churning speed by using the buttons and since there is no timer they do not control the length of the churning, so what purpose do they serve?
Ken F on Apr 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: According to Cuisinart Customer Service, each button is a different churning speed.
What's the difference between this model and the ICE70?

Cuisinart Gelateria Ice Cream Maker
Cuisinart Gelateria Ice Cream Maker
Cuisinart® Classic Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker, Crush
Cuisinart® Classic Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream and Sorbet Maker, Crush
BEST ANSWER: No, i didn't mean to add that other model alongside. I'm asking about the ICE70 and the ICE70W
Is there a cooling compressor in the machine?
A shopper on Mar 28, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, the unit uses as pre-frozen container
How long does it take to prepare/freeze a batch of ice cream? Is it all "one step" - I used a KitchenAid ice cream maker attachment and didn't like having to freeze the ice cream additionally after it was stirred into ice cream.
A shopper on Mar 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The bowl must be frozen in freezer first. Recipe book recommends chilling the ice cream mixture for at least 2 hours in the refrigerator before making ice cream. I've followed this advice and the maker only takes between 10 and 12 minutes to churn. It's a creamy texture, if you want it firmer, just freeze it for a while.
Can You use artificial sweeteners?
A shopper on Apr 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, Cuisinart provides some recipes for Stevia, and also agave. But you could potentially use any sweetener.
Will the freezer bowls from the Classic Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker, fit in this unit?
lori s on Apr 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No. They each have their own bowls.
What is the noise level?
Pamela P on Apr 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This machine is relatively quiet, compared to the other Cuisinart ice cream maker model I own. It is about the sound of a mixer. I think it's more quiet because of the full cover on the top of the machine. I would definitely recommend this machine.
This model does not appear to have an LCD countdown timer. Some other models do. Does it matter?
Ken F on Apr 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The most notable difference that it would make is that you can't auto program it. This one will take a little more hands on time & has to be watched more closely.
I'm in search of an ice cream maker with a stainless steel bowl, does this one have an actual stainless steel bowl or is it coated?
A shopper on May 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It's coated.
What is the difference between the gelato and the ice cream that this makes? The gelatiria I used to go to said that they made gelato with skim milk instead of cream or whole milk, is that the difference or is it something else?
Nora M on Jun 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Gelato is the Italian word for ice cream. It starts out with a similar custard base as ice cream, but has a higher proportion of milk and a lower proportion of cream and eggs (or no eggs at all). It is churned at a much slower rate, incorporating less air and leaving the gelato denser than ice cream. The settings on the Ice Cream Maker combined with the easy to follow recipe book that comes with the ice cream maker take the guess work out of Ice Cream vs. Gelato.
Do you have to use a purchased ice cream starter mix or do the recipes that come with the machine not include the starters? Those starter mixes are so expensive that you might as well buy ice cream rather than make it at home.
A shopper on Jun 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: My purchase was a gift to my daughter and her boyfriend - here it the response they provided. You definitely do not need a starter mix - to tell you the truth, I didn't even know those existed. Ice cream recipes in general are pretty easy. There are a few ways to do it, but I usually start with making a custard on the stove (egg yolks, sugar, dairy, and whatever flavoring ingredients you want), refrigerate overnight, and then churn in the ice cream maker the next day. The two hardest parts are 1.) remembering to keep the base in the freezer so it gets extremely cold and 2.) stirring and monitoring the temperature of the custard while cooking to make sure the eggs don't set. Other than that, it is very easy, and also cheap. A good website like seriouseats will have all the recipes you could ever want.
Do you have to freeze the bowl.?
A shopper on Jun 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the bowl take 12-24 hours to freeE the first time. I washed it first and then covered it with some plastic wrap held in place with a rubber band. Now I just leave it in our deep freezer all the time so we can make a frozen treat quickly when whenever we want. It works great.
can I use my own recipe?
A shopper on Sep 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The machine comes with a book that contains many nice recipes, but I have used several other recipes and these turn out well. Just make sure the recipe is the appropriate volume for the freezer.
Can I use whole milk instead of heavy cream & half & half?
Fondra A on Jul 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi, Fondra. Love your name!
My guess is yes, and likely even low-fat milk. It won't be as rich, but if you review the recipes for alternative milks (almond, cashew, oat), you'll see that even low fat milks can make a wonderful ice "cream." I believe it'll be smoother if you add tapioca starch or a gum. My preference is acacia. The results are delicious, even though not as rich and creamy.
All the best,
Beth
Can you make dairy free ice cream in this machine using soy or coconut milk?
Sue T on Dec 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I only make dairy free gelato in my machine. I use coconut milk that is tempered with 2 to 3 egg yolks vanilla paste and maple. Then it is strained before chilling for 2 hours in the refrigerator. 20 minutes in the machine is rich velvety and delicious with nothing else or made with espresso, berry puree, mint extract or chocolate of course.
If this machine doesn't have a compressor, how does it freeze the ice cream?
Don T on Jul 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You put the bowl that comes with the machine in the freezer for a minimum of 24 hours. Then, you add your ice cream mixture and put the bowl into the machine and turn it on the setting that you want. It churns in the frozen bowl for about 30 minutes depending on what you are making. It works!
How does it affect the texture of the gelato if you only make 1 pint at a time? Does it hurt the machine to do this?
A shopper on Sep 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have made a small serving of Ice Cream and it was fine. The only thing I would do different next time is that I would not halve the flavoring (extract) I would put in the same amount of that as for a bigger batch. The ice cream was not as flavorful as the full batch. Have not made Gelato, yet......nothing like fresh ice cream or Gelato.
Does this use the same bowl as the original? I have the original and would like to have two bowls for easily making multiple flavors at the same time without waiting for a re-freeze.
Brian on Dec 11, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I don't htink so. My purchase was a wedding gift, but I note that the capacity of the Gelateria is larger than my current, well-used freezer bowl.
WHAT IS THE HEIGHT OF THE FREEZER BOWL?
A shopper on Jun 14, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The outside height of the freezer bowl is 6 inches,.... The inside height of the freezer bowl is 4 1/2 inches. Important to know also, is that you'll need to freeze the freezer bowl from 12-24 hours, in your freezer, prior to usage. I hope this info was helpful.
Can you use just fruit to make frozen fruit desserts?
A shopper on Jun 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You can make a sorbet but you should use frozen fruit.
Can you buy extra freezer bowls separately?
Sharon B on Jun 28, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm sure you can directly from the manufacturer but I haven't had to order a new one and I've had my unit for 3 years. Still works great.
