Well worth the investment!
Purchased this close to a year ago and use it almost every week. Can't remember the last time I bought ice cream. Using a simple vanilla ice cream recipe (to which I sometimes add mashed bananas or pureed strawberries), soft serve consistency is ready in about 20-25 minutes. The bowl stays really, really cold. Important to chill ingredients ahead of time for a smoother finished product and be careful not to overfill. Will probably never use my old ice and salt electric freezer again!!

Seems like a great idea but leaked freezer liquid :(
Purchased an Ice Cream Maker Attachment, which started leaking blue liquid after I used it once (and followed all freezing/cleaning directions). I exchanged it but unfortunately my second one leaked also (this time after two uses), so I ended up going with stand Ice Cream Maker.

This icream maker never worked. Blue liquid leaked out during my first use. I see many reviews with the same problem. Stay away from this expensive, useless device.

Started to leak
I've had this attachment for a little bit of time, maybe a little over a year. It has been used sparingly and just recently we noticed blue liquid in the freezer. We let it thaw and noticed it was leaking. Not really happy that an expensive attachment didn't last longer. I won't recommend this to others.

Poor Design
Bought this 4 years ago but haven't started using it until a year ago. After 4 batches of ice cream I noticed blue liquid on the bottom and when I cleaned it out there was a small perfectly round hole in the bottom still leaking fluid. Wish I had read the reviews. Kitchenaid should address this problem

Leaks!
This is my second ice cream maker attachment. Both worked fine for a while (2 or 3 uses each) and then they start leaking blue liquid. I was very careful to follow all of the instructions, especially for cleaning, but it still happened. Poorly made product.

Cool attachment!
We received this as a gift for our wedding over a year ago, absolutely love it and the recipes included! The instruction manual says to not wash it out with warm water right after using which makes me wonder if that's the reason why so many people have issues with it leaking coolant liquid, maybe not waiting until it has warmed up enough before washing? We've used it at least 8 times for several different recipes (fresh strawberry and fresh peach ice cream are my favorites!) and it's still going strong! I'm sorry to see others have problems with it!

Started leaking
I received this product as a Christmas gift in 2014. We've loved it and it worked great until a month ago when it started leaking a blue fluid. After reading the other reviews, I see that this is not uncommon. I would love for the company to do something about this for me as we would love to continue using it. It's my son's favorite ice cream!

Extremely Disappointed
This was easy to use and I kept it in the box between uses. I only used this 5 or 6 times before the bowl started leaking some sort of blue fluid. This was given to me as a gift and I feel bad the person wasted their money on something I only got to use a couple times.

Great Idea - flawed design
My wife received one of these several years ago under a promotional deal (heavily discounted with purchase of a new mixer) and we enjoyed it thoroughly. A few weeks ago, when she went to use it, she discovered that it was leaking the blue filling liquid from what appears to be a fill point on the assembly (a dimple inside the braces on the 'nib' that interfaces with the spring catch on the mixer stand.
Not being aware that this is a systemic problem with this product (as I discovered here tonight) she went ahead and ordered another. I'll be scuffing the area that leaked previously and filling it with epoxy resin - hopefully that will stop this one from springing the same leak we all have experienced.

I have an ice cream recipe that I want to make and I have a KitkenAid Mixer, so instead of adding another appliance to my kitchen, I decided to use what I already have and just add to it. Plus, Sur La Table was having a KitchenAid sale, what a better time than now to buy one.

We did not want to buy another appliance for our kitchen. We already have the Kitchen Aid Mixer and were delighted to find out there is an attachment that would meet our needs. Also, the convience of making it and placing it in the same bowl I am making it in into the freezer for storage....well, that sealed the deal! Can't wait to get it and start creating our own ice cream delights!

does it fit the pro line 7qt?
A shopper on Jul 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Fits all Stand Mixers except KSM6573C and KSM7 models. For those models order KAICA.
Does this ICE CREAM BOWL ATTACHMENT work with Artisan stand mixers?
KIMMARIE W on Feb 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes it does. But have only had the opportunity to use it once. Made some sorbet. I think it would have been more firm it the sorbet mixture had been cooled down more.
I have a 6quart stand mixer. Will it work with a six?
Wanda on Jun 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I use it with my Pro-6. It has handles on the side for the mixer arms, and a knob for the latching mechanism. Pay attention to the instructions because the paddle adapter is designed for both styles of mixers, so you'll have to make sure you fasten it correctly for it to work.
Is this just made to make ice cream?
A shopper on Mar 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I've made several batches of ice cream with my attachment. When you ask if it's just to make ice cream, are you wanting to know if gelato or sorbet can also be made? I can't confirm as I haven't tried those yet, but I imagine if it's frozen and needs to be churned, you can use this attachment. Hope this helps.
Does this attachment come with any recipes?
JOAN S on Jul 11, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the booklet which accompanies the bowl contains several recipes. I googled recipes for ice cream and found a really good one that makes just the right amount that calls for sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, sugar, vanilla and milk (and I add just a pinch of salt).
Will this one fit the small kitchen aid mixer?
A shopper on Sep 3, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I do not know; but when they are specific like saying, "for 7 quart mixer," that generally means it will not work on anything but that.
Does this work on the mini?
A shopper on Feb 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't want to be flippant, but as far as I am concerned, this attachment does not work, period. It is an extremely poor design and the power transfer just does not work
