Prrchased in Feb, died in May
I purchased this item in Feb. 2016 and it stopped working in May. After loading the unit with ingredients yesterday, it just started clicking, but did nothing else. To add insult to injury, Sur la Table won't replace the product, and Cuisinart will charge me to ship the replacement unit to me AND I will have to pay to ship the defective unit back to them. Some warranty! Strongly recommend that you avoid this product.

Great, but...
This yoghurt maker would be perfect if the inner liner where the yoghurt is made was made of glass instead of plastic. I like that I don't have to preheat the milk before turning it on. It holds a nice amount, and when I set it to the maximum time I get a nice thick yoghurt. I did buy a Greek yoghurt strainer to make mine even thicker after it comes out of the maker. I've never had a bad batch come out of this machine. Just wish I had bought it at SLT where customer service is better.

Love it
PUrchasedit in 2011 and it is still going strong. I know some complain that the yogurt comes out very thin but I just strain it for a couple of hours through cheese cloth and I have great greek yogurt.

Best yogurt ever.
After our initial attmept and a small learning curve, this makes the best yogurt ever. We might have to get a second machine soon as I'm sure we'll wear this one out.

2 years of cheap, awesome vegan soy yogurt!!!
We have made soy yogurt 2 times a week for 2 years with this machine. It has saved us a ton of money, and means we can eat vegan soy yogurt without the ton of sugar used in commercial offerings. The fact that it automatically goes into chill mode following a cycle is of monumental help. Never ruin a batch, and don't have to be a slave to your yogurt production. If you like some sweetness in your soy yogurt, add sliced fruit or a spoonful of fruit preserves WHEN YOU SERVE IT. Remember to save 6 oz. of your yogurt for the next batch. Don't give up if you fail. This machine really works well, after you get used to using it.

Here's our recipe for soy yogurt:
1 tsp Agar-Agar powder (buy at Asian, Telephone Brand)
6 oz. seed soy yogurt (save from your last batch, "seed" just means it's needed as a live culture for your new batch)
1 cup refrigerated soy milk
1 qt. room temp soy milk

Pour 1 cup of refrigerated soy milk + 3 cups of room temp soy milk into a 4 cup pyrex measuring cup
Microwave for 2 minutes on high
Whisk the Agar-Agar into the (barely) hot milk
Pour half of the above into yogurt maker plastic container
Pour the remainder of the room temp yogurt into the measuring cup (to cool somewhat) and whisk in the seed soy yogurt.
Now whisk the measuring cup mixture into the plastic yogurt maker container
Place on inner and outer lids.
Set to 10 hours and hit start.

Notes: yogurt wants some high heat to get things going, but too much heat at the wrong time can kill your live culture, thus the steps above are a time proven way to help you skip use of a thermometer.
We use a half-gallon of soy milk in fridge for the cold 1 cup and the 1qt boxes for the remaining amount come from our pantry.
After 4 or 5 batches you will likely find your yogurt lacks enough live culture and batches may start to fail (watery mess, not thickening). This is normal, because you're not breeding yogurt at room temps in a food lab. Start over with a new store bought 6 oz. cup of soy yogurt, before this happens. We do it every 4th or 5th batch. Remember to taste the sugary store bought once in a while to remind yourself how much they oversweeten it. You will be shocked after you get used to fresh natural yogurt.

I have twins who eat Yogurt every day, we are always running out so I'm hoping this will solve that problem. Excited to start making fresh yogurt with only healthy ingredients
Wendy A on Feb 27, 2017
I already have one that makes yogurt in little jars, but I like that this one has the cooling process integrated and I can make one big batch. I can still store it in single serving glass containers along with fresh berries, etc., just as I would with a large container of store-bought yogurt, but with this I have control over my ingredients.
Sharlyn S on Feb 7, 2017
To make home made yogurt. This looks like a good product because I trust Cuisinart brand
ALICE C on Jan 30, 2017
After doing research, this seems like the best yogurt maker for us. We eat a lot of plain yogurt in a week, and I would like to eliminate all the plastic going into the waste, so thought I would try making my own. I like that I can make it at night, and have it ready in the morning. I really like the timing feature.
Carolyn U on Dec 24, 2016

What is the low cooking temperature in Farentheit degrees?
A shopper on Sep 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: To make the yogurt, I heat the milk to 180?, then cool it to 110? before adding the live culture. There is no temperature setting inside the maker, so I don't know what temperature it holds the milk to while it processes.
Can temperature set to cool only? What is the cooling temperature range in F.
Robert U on Dec 6, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, it can't set to cool only. Cooling Temp is between 43 & 52°.
Can I program for 24 hours?
A shopper on Nov 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I believe so.
Can a glass container, even if smaller, be substituted?
Nickname on Apr 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't think so. The plastic insert seems to have been made especially for machine. I transfer the final product into glass jars once done. I love this machine and I usually am very particular about buying plastic anything.
