Replaced a good pan, this is even better
We had a pan of this size and it was working well, but, as the rest of our cooking equipment was turning to stainless we retired that pan in favor of this one.
First, it looks great. our pans are hung up in the kitchen and this one fits in well.
Second, the heat distribution is good there seem to be no hot spots and the sides contribute by getting hot along with the rest of the pan.
Third, Clean up was easy. We try to maintain the stainless steel directive of using medium heat for most uses and the pan respond well to this treatment. Nothing stuck to the bottom that could not be remove with a plastic scrubby.
Finally, the item was received quickly well packaged and protected.

The 3-quart pan is my "go to" pan for most meals where I am cooking for two. It is really the perfect size. And the house brand is every bit as good as those pricey tri-ply brands.

Well Made, Versatile
I use this pan (5qt) to sear meat or poultry and finish it in the oven (covered or uncovered). Then I take the meat (and veggies, sometimes) out and make a pan gravy. Even with the lid on, the 5qt is big enough for two cornish hens, a deboned chicken, or small pork or beef roast. I love having a big pan that I can use on the stove top (gas) and in the oven. Great price, too.

Function and beauty
Use this often. Good size to do many things. Heats evenly and washes up nicely. A beautiful saute pan and I love the two handles--very easy to carry. Recommend.

Great cookware.
I enjoy this cookware. Honestly, I have some All Clad too, and it's just as good,in my opinion. The price is much better too. Easy to take care of.

Very Pleased
I purchased the 5qt. size as a companion piece to my 20 year old All-Clad hard anodized cookware. The quality is outstanding. I use this sauté pan very often for dishes like Swiss Steak, or any dish that is braised. We also use it to fry up a skillet of hand cut French fries on occasion. It's very versatile. I will look to this brand for future stainless steel cookware purchases.

Very nice pan
I have been in the process of replacing some of my 30-year-old pans with new ones. This is one of the new ones I purchased. I had never used a saucepan as much as I am using this one. It sits flat on my glass stove, heats evenly, and cleans up well. I am very glad I bought it.

Fantastic pan! Of course!
I love my new saute pan. I started using it right away. Perfect size, cooks perfectly, cleans easily. Exactly what I expected from Sur La Table. I have many of their pots & pans and have been very happy with them. This is the first pan of this size for my kitchen. Since my new stove will have a larger burner, this pan is.... perfect!

Disappointing -- warped very early on
I bought this and either it came warped (bulge in center) or warped very early on. It burns in the center and wobbles on my cooktop stove.
Expected more from SurLaTable and a triply pan.

What are the actual dimensions of the 5qt pan? For example, what is the diameter of the inner cooking surface at the bottom and the outer diameter at the top? What is the height of the pan not including the lid and the handle?
BEST ANSWER: The inner cooking surface is about 11" in diameter, and the outer edge diameter is just over 12". The pan is 3" high on the outer edge, 2.75" high on the inner edge. The whole pan, from the edge of one handle to the other, takes up 23".

Is that a "see-through" lid?
BEST ANSWER: No. Take a closer look---you can see the reflection of the handle and the backsplash in the lid. It's a polished/mirrored metal finish.

What can I use to remove a dark stain at the bottom (inside the pan), after using it for the first time? Dish detergent on a sponge and "elbow grease" didn't work! :(
BEST ANSWER: Pour in about a tablespoon of Cream of Tartar, add about 1.5 cups of water, and boil on the stovetop for 5-8 minutes. Then the elbow grease will work!

Does the 3 qt size sauté pan have a helpe handle?
BEST ANSWER: The 3-qt. pan I have from about April 2016 does not have a handle. However, it really does not need one since it is a very reasonable (and useful) size.
