First Time I am Disappointed with Le Creuset
While my other Le Creuset pieces are fine, this one has been a problem. The first one which was shipped to me from Sur La Table had a defective enamel coating on the inside. Although they couldn't be felt, there were visible black specks on the enamel. Additionally, the enamel became discolored after one use. As usual, exchanging it at Sur La table was not a ptoblem, but upon using it the first time, I found the glass lid to be a very poor fit, to the point it actually slides around a bit while on the casserole. The enamel coating still has a couple of black specks, but did not discolor during use.

Perfect Everyday Pan
I have been coveting this pan for a while - it's the perfect size for everyday cooking. I've been using it for a few weeks now and I absolutely LOVE it. I own a small collection of Le Creuset (dutch ovens in two sizes, a small 2-qt sauce pan and a very large and wide pot) and this is my go-to almost every week night. The glass lid makes it so much more practical and the color choices are lovely. I bought the yellow one and it looks beautiful on my cooktop.

Fantastic pan
I really enjoy this pan. It is a great size and shape. I really like cooking with cast iron. It holds heat so well. Due to the enamel interior coating I now can cook with tomatoes and other acidic foods, and gravies are easier to make. The metal lid knob makes it more oven usable than pans with composite knobs. I have only used it 3-4 times but see it being my go-to pan for a lot of dishes.

gail f on Nov 5, 2018
Le Creuset seems to be of the highest quality cookware items to buy. Beautifully made, gets the job done, doesn't chip like the cheaper brands do. Imho, every cook should have one of these pans with a lid because they can go from stovetop to the oven for when you make a fritatta.
Jamie C on Nov 5, 2018
Bc it had a lid and was the right size for all sort of cooking and as my 1st le creuset piece thought it would be perfect.

Is there a functional difference between the Le Creuset Buffet Casserole and the Le Creuset Braiser?
A shopper on Aug 18, 2016
Le Creuset Buffet Casserole with Glass Lid, 3.5 qt.
Le Creuset Buffet Casserole with Glass Lid, 3.5 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Marseille Braiser, 5 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Marseille Braiser, 5 qt.
BEST ANSWER: I find the casserole more functional - I use it for fried rice and side dishes and sautéing, and the clear lid is light weight, so it is easier to lift for stirring verses the heavy weight of the braiser lid. Also, the base is actually less heavy than the braiser, which I prefer in the oven. Both can be used as a skillet, but I prefer the heavy weight of the braiser for deep frying and oven use.
Difference between( Le Creuset 3.5 qt.) braiser and buffet casserole, as far as versatility?

Le Creuset Buffet Casserole with Glass Lid, 3.5 qt.
Le Creuset Buffet Casserole with Glass Lid, 3.5 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Braiser, 3.5 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Braiser, 3.5 qt.
BEST ANSWER: The only difference is the lid.
What is difference between the braiser and the buffet casserole dish? Both state..."perfect for searing, braising, slow cooking and more." The casserole has a glass top and this has a solid. What is the difference?!?!?
sarah e on Sep 19, 2016
Le Creuset Buffet Casserole with Glass Lid, 3.5 qt.
Le Creuset Buffet Casserole with Glass Lid, 3.5 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Braiser, 5 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Braiser, 5 qt.
BEST ANSWER: The glass lid will not hold heat in the same way that cast iron does. The cast iron allows you to pan-roast on your stove top because it circulates that heat. Glass lids do not do this.
Please tell me the dimensions (diameter & depth) of the pan? Thank you
A shopper on Jul 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Dimensions: 12" x 5.5"; including handles and lid: 15.5" x 5.5"
Could this be used as a skillet?
A shopper on Aug 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The sides are a little too high for a skillet. It would be more like a saute pan.
Is the lid made in France too?
A shopper on Jul 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is.
Actual base dimension touching the cook top surface?
A shopper on Aug 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The pan bottom that actually comes in contaCT with the stovetop is 9.25 inches- it's slighty raised, sort of a lip...if that helps.
What is the weight?
A shopper on Aug 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: 8 lbs. 12 oz. w/ lid
6 lbs. 14 oz. w/o lid
Can the glass lid be put in the oven ?
Evey S on Aug 12, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Per the product features: Lid is oven-safe to 425°F and stays securely in place to lock in steam and flavor
Can someone tell me the difference between the le creuset buffet casserole and the le creuset braiser? Not sure which one I should purchase. Thanks!
A shopper on Nov 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It's most likely a matter of preference. I have the le creuset buffet casserole and really like it. I like the glass lid as you can see into the dish without removing the lid. The braiser is nice, but I think less versatile. I don't have one but when considering, I realized that I would use the buffet casserole more frequently... but, again, it's really a matter of how you will use it and how often. I use my Le Creuset in a variety of ways...
Is the interior enamel white or cream colored?
A shopper on Apr 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The interior is cream colored. The product photo is a pretty good representation of the color.
is this braiser 12 inches across the top of the pan? without handles?
sabrina l on Mar 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Sabrina....YES it is exactly 12 inches across WITHOUT the handles!!! Enjoy!!!
What is the measurement of the glass lid? Is the glass lid sold separately?
John Q on Aug 4, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The lid is 12.5x2.5. It is not sold separately.
is it non stick?
A shopper on May 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Like most Le Creuset dishes, it's cast iron with an enamel interior that resists much sticking but it's technically not non-stick. I use it for everything from frying eggs to braising and sauteeing and I don't have issues with sticking. That being said, I wouldn't use it for scrambled eggs or anything delicate where a non-stick pan is a must.
is the bottom finished?
A shopper on Dec 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The bottom of this Buffet Casserole with Glass Lid has the same finish and color as the rest of the item. I bought this in September of this year and it is my go to casserole dish. Love it and will probably purchase it in a different color.
Is this pan suitable for a frittata?
Marcia B on Nov 26, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I always start my frittata on the stove and then transfer it to the oven uncovered. I see no reason why this pan could not be used for making a frittata. Hope this helps. P.S. I used my pan for Thanksgiving and it worked for a colorful veggie dish.
Is this safe for a flat top stove?
A shopper on Mar 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes this casserole is safe on flat top glass stoves. This is what I have and it works like any Le Creuset pan. The only difference is that the glass lid has a lower temperature limit in oven than the regular Le Creuset pan or pot lid. I love mine! Hope this helps.
Can this be used to make risotto?
A shopper on Dec 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't see why not... however, it IS a large flat surface... so it would be good for a large recipe of risotto. It might take more liquid because the surface is so large the rice wouldn't have enough time to absorb because of the quick evaporation... Le Creuset does have a "risotto pan" - I have that one and it makes lovely risotto.
Can I use this braiser in my oven broiler?
Margie J on Jun 14, 2017
BEST ANSWER: As long as the broiler temperature does not exceed 500°F, the pan will be fine. However the glass lid is only oven safe to 425°F.
Can I use metal utensils with this pan?
A shopper on Jul 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: yes
What does it weigh?
A shopper on Jan 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: A lot! It is cast iron underneath the coating so probably 5 lbs or so.
Is the le creuset 3 1/2 qt. buffet casserole broiler safe?
C A on Mar 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Perfectly safe. As with anything used in an oven, or on a stovetop, it gets hot, so use appropriate protection.
Does anyone own both the buffet casserole and the braiser? If so, which do you prefer and why?
A shopper on Nov 3, 2016
Le Creuset Buffet Casserole with Glass Lid, 3.5 qt.
Le Creuset Buffet Casserole with Glass Lid, 3.5 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Marseille Braiser, 5 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Marseille Braiser, 5 qt.
BEST ANSWER: I have had both for several months and definitely prefer the casserole with the glass lid. While I still use both, I find myself reaching for the glass lid casserole more often because it is a bit lighter and it's more convenient to not be lifting the lid to check the status of a recipe.
How does the copper looking knob on the “morel” color lid hold up? If it’s stainless, why the copper look?
A shopper on Oct 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It is stainless, not copper, as is the color. It has held up well. I love this product. I use it often. It looks brand new and I keep on my stovetop.
