Wonderful mandoline
After months of research I decided to go with the Benriner. For me it came down to quality and long term use. I accept the fact that these devices can be dangerous. Use with a healthy dose of respect for the blade and things will go well. It's also an added bonus that I can sharpen the blade with the same wet stones I purchased to keep my straight razors sharp.
Similar products have all kinds of safety features and neat options but all seem to come at the cost of a quality in the core functionality of what a mandoline is. Cheaper blades that can't be sharpened, so many safety features that it becomes annoying to use, etc.
Just my 2 cents, do you're own research and chose what works best for your needs.
Made a beautiful dish of scalloped potatoes the first night home. Many more meals to come.

Works as expected - very good price at sur la table
great for slicing at your desired thickness, most of the other manolines have predefined thickness. The blades for juliennes are not as easy as the plain blade, but it did the trick

My mother bought one in late 1970's from a Korean market in Canada. She still has it and uses it after 40 years. She lost the fine and medium blades during one her moves in the 90's, so I bought her a replacement after all these decades and one for myself too.

What is the difference between this and the other Benriner available?
April L on Oct 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This one is wider. It also comes with one less blade.
