Sur La Table Homemade Chicken Cacciatore Starter

Rustic and savory, our hearty “hunter-style” cacciatore sauce combines herbs and spices in a rich tomato base. This easy-to-prepare dish brings the traditional flavors of Italy to your dinner table. Simply brown cuts of bone-in chicken, drain off oil, and then add the sauce and simmer for a quick, hearty weeknight meal that’s delicious when served with crusty bread. It can also be prepared in the slow cooker for an ultra-easy, hands-off meal. Our gourmet starter sauces are prepared in small batches using only natural ingredients.

Dutch Oven Directions:

• 4 lbs bone-in chicken, cut into 8 pieces
• Salt and pepper
• 2 Tbsp olive oil
• 1 red bell pepper, chopped (optional)
• Basil leaves, chopped for garnish
• Crusty bread

Season chicken with salt and pepper. In a large sauté pan over medium heat, add oil and brown chicken, working in batches. Add more oil to the pan if needed. Transfer chicken to a platter. Drain off excess oil and return chicken to the pan. Add simmer sauce. Cover and cook for 20 minutes. Uncover pan, add chopped red peppers (if using) and continue cooking until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F. Garnish with basil and serve with crusty bread.

Slow Cooker Directions: Lightly season chicken with salt and pepper. In a large sauté pan over medium heat, add oil and brown chicken on both sides. Transfer to slow cooker and cover with Cacciatore Starter. Cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until internal temperature of chicken is 165°F.
