Simple Summer Fun
I love my Ice Cream Bowl attachment! I have owned this product for about a year and use it fairly regularly.
It is so easy to use and comes with some simple recipes. I also have found some great recipes in the Ben and Jerry's book and David Lebovitz's book ""The Perfect Scoop.""
I like that it is an addition to my KitchenAid Pro 600 Stand Mixer and not a a completely seperate item cluttering my counter.
Keep in mind that the bowl is large and will need to fit in your freezer before and during preparation. You will also need a separate container to store finished ice cream. I use a Glasslock tempered glass storgage piece (also available from Sur La Table.)
Although it is a bit more expensive then some other brands, I believe the attachment is worth the investment. I have never had any issues with mine

Skeptic turned into a Believer!
When I first received this product, I was highly skeptical about how it would perform. I read all the directions thoroughly and decided to make the french vanilla ice cream for my first batch. I prepared the mix the night before. The next morning, it literally only took me 25 minutes to make my first batch. And I couldn't believe how good that it tasted! My husband said that it was by far the best home made ice cream he has ever tasted! I love my little ice cream maker now and I am even wanting to purchase a second bowl!!

You can eat right away, but it's best to let the flavors marry in the freezer overnight. I keep mine in the freezer during summer months with frozen fruit stored inside! This works great and is a great investment! Love it

Worked perfectly
I used this just today and loved it. It started to turn into ice cream within minutes and was completely done in about 15 min. There was no hassle in getting anything done. We have decided to leave the attachment in the freezer always, and just pull it out when we have the desire to make some ice cream. I'm really excited to make more.

Great for Ice Cream
I had a different ice cream mixer but the paddle/dasher broke. I bought this as a replacement and love it. First, I like the fact that this is an accessory to my KitchenAid stand mixer and not a stand alone product. It is small enough to fit in my chest freezer. As a note, however, I did try and make two quarts of Sur La Table's Guinness Ice cream recipe at the same time. I would not advise doing a double batch because it does not fit into the bowl comfortably - there was a lot of spill over (which my dog loved) and it was more difficult to get the ice cream to freeze up. Also, be sure that the dasher is appropriately attached to the head. Like my other ice cream maker, if the bowl is too cold, it will be difficult to blend - this has a simple solution - just wait a few minutes

Could use a lid.
I bought this ice cream maker because it received such favorable ratings on my fav cooking/product review show and I already owned a KitchenAid Mixer. I am very happy with it!

The one feature I wished it had was a tight fitting lid so when I did store it in the freezer for long periods of time it would be less likely to pick up freezer odors.

Awesome ice cream!
I love my little attachment. As someone with many food allergies, I love the fact that I can make my own ice cream and KNOW exactly what is in it. And the fact that my picky eaters in my family have requested some of the unusual flavors (peppermint candy, caramel macchiato) and loved them makes it even better.
I keep this in the freezer so that it is always ready to go. Sure, the prep takes a little planning but all cooking does.
I have found a few things that MUST be done to insure greatness. The only time I had a failure, I didn't add salt, didn't have the ice cream maker in the freezer long enough and didn't put the mixture in the freezer for an hour before. Yucky mess but I learned from it.
1. Always add a little salt.
2. Keep ice cream maker in the freezer, not in cabinet. This way it's ready and you don't have to wait 15 hours.
3. Cool mixture in fridge completely and then put into the freezer for 30 to 60 minutes. This jump starts the mixing process and ensures proper temperature.
4. Don't wash with hot water. Lukewarm will work fine. Then towel dry completely before putting back in freezer. Also, don't put in dishwasher - I know instructions say this but I want to stress it since I think those who had leaky ones may have either done this or washed with hot water which would cause cracks in an ice cold item. (Think putting a very hot glass item into cold water)
I hope this helps.

Highly recommend! Great ice cream maker.
I got this years ago now and I've used it many, many times. Every single time we end up with delicious ice cream. We leave the bowl in the freezer at all times and only need to mix the base for about 30 minutes. We've gotten in the habit of making the ice cream the day before and letting it set up overnight. I use recipes from Ben & Jerry's recipe book which are delicious. The vanilla is my absolute favorite!

Worked great!
I used the french vanilla recipe in the manual and followed the directions to a T. It worked beautifully! The consistency when it finished churning was more like soft serve ice cream but after freezing in a container it was perfect hard ice cream. I was nervous after reading other reviews but I love it now!

SOOOOO convenient
I've made 3 different ice cream recipes and one sorbet. I keep in mind in the refrigerator freezer, the deep freeze would be much better to have. the night before I want to make ice cream I turn the freezer to its coldest setting. I also have found to make sure the paddle is turning before pouring the ingredients into the bowl, this prevents it from freezing to the bottom. I also wait until it's completely room temperature before washing and then don't use extremely hot water. also wait until it's completely dry before putting in the freezer so it doesn't get little ice chunks in the bowl

Will the ice cream attachment fit a 7qt mixer?
A shopper on Dec 11, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it will.
Will this work for the Kitchenaid Classic Plus Mixer?
Hannah S on Nov 14, 2014
Will it fit a 6 qt?
A shopper on Jun 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It fits both the Tilt-Head Mixer and the Bowl-Lift Mixers. The Assembly instructions say that the freeze bowl is designed to fit all bowl-lift mixers and it has a pin on each side. If the pin is too short or too long to snap into the spring latch, rotate bowl and use the pin on the other side. So, yes it should fit. Works great.
Is this available for other KitchenAid mixers?
A shopper on Apr 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This is meant for use with 5-qt. and Pro 600 KitchenAid tilt-head or bowl-lift models.
I have a Professional 550 HD...will this bowl fit?
A shopper on Feb 10, 2017
How long does it typically take to finish a single batch of ice cream once it's in this freezer bowl? And, then, how long after a single batch must you refreeze the bowl typically?
Stacy T on Apr 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The colder the bowl & ingredients, the faster the batch, as short as 15-20 min. But don't try using the bowl twice in one day, or it will take MUCH longer.Your choice how long to freeze the ice cream before serving, from soft-serve if immediately to smooth and solid after a few hours.
Can you make dairy-free, egg-free ice cream with this?
Jennifer D on Apr 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it works wonders. I just made a vanilla ice "cream" with 1 can coconut milk, 3/4 cup cashews soaked overnight, maple syrup and vanilla, no dairy or eggs. Whirr in Vitamix and then freeze. So creamy and tasted like a gourmet gelato. Can also use avocados in place of the nuts or frozen bananas.
will this fit on the 8 quart commercial mixer?
A shopper on Dec 24, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It fits my 5 quart fine. I'm guessing that it will not fit the 8 quart. The ice cream bowl has the rests on the sides for the lifting head machine. If your machine is the lifting head I would suggest you measure the distance between the rests on your machine. There is a considerable difference between 5 and 8 quarts. Also, the dasher fits the tilt or the lift top machine. That might not be a problem with an 8qt. Have you ever called Sur La Table customer service? I found them to be very helpful. The ice cream attachment is great if you can get one to fit your machine I highly recommend it.
I have had mine for years and just found it in storage forgetting that I had it. I'm in AZ so will the heat have affected from storing in the garage? I need the recipes, so I am wondering if they are on line? Thanks
Ann R. Z on Jul 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That is one of the many perfect accessories for your KitchenAid Mixer! There are some excellent recipes listed on the Sur La Table website under the Recipes link/ Desserts. I also found that the ice cream starter mixes that Sur La Table sells are very rich in flavor and creamy. Enjoy your rediscovered ice cream bowl by putting the bowl in the freezer and let the ice cream making begin!
Does it come with a recipe book?
A shopper on Mar 25, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it does come with some recipes. Although I have not tried any of them, some of them look delicious. Waiting for warmer weather to start using mine. There are lots of recipes online also.
Can this fit a 8qt mixer?
Norma P on Apr 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is compatible with 5-qt. and Pro 600 KitchenAid tilt-head or bowl-lift models.
