Best stovetop popcorn maker !
First off I don't write reviews as soon as I use a item once or as soon as I get it, I use the item for several months/times even up to a year before I make a review.

The one I bought from Sur La Table (guessing 8 months ago) didn't have that black rubber or plastic edging around the lid, mine was stainless steel so I don't know anything about that.

I'm 100% satisfied with this Zippy stovetop popcorn maker !
It is of high quality craftsmanship & will stand up to many years of use, plus the ease of cleaning it is a huge plus !

Yes it costs a lot more than some other CHEAPER models, like the saying goes
" You get what you pay for ! "
Buy this Zippy model & be 100% satisfied from the start, or
Buy other cheaper models & be not satisfied from the get go with things breaking, not easy to clean, not well designed.
And regret your purchase with wasted money spent, or even more since you bought another of that same design that failed you from the start, but you were too cheap.

When you should of bought a Zippy from the start !

As for making popcorn,
I add a lot more oil than they say, 2-3 Tbsp is not enough.
I make sure the bottom is covered with oil, the popcorn is done right & it's not even oily it's still kind of on the dry side to be honest.

1/3 cup popcorn (as they say) does work the best for the 5.5 Qt, anything more you run the risk of over flowing the pot & making more of a mess.
For me I'd say 99% + of the kernels are popped, everyone else it may be different = how old are your kernels ?
when I used less oil more kernels were un-popped, & ran the risk of burning the popcorn easier.

This is a flavor note, just a suggestion to save yourself time/money if you like these flavors, which are not common in the stores so you have to look elsewhere to buy them online.

- Dill pickle flavor
Kernel Season's (Brand)
It's the closest to that dill pickle flavoring & IMO its the closest you'll get other than eating real pickles.

- Buffalo Wing flavor
Tru-pop/ Just poppin (Brand)
Again it's the closest to that wing flavor, weak for heat so mix in some habanero powder to it to bring up the heat.
Other than that its spot on for buffalo wing flavor, 2nd ingredient is dried vinegar, 3rd ingredient is hot sauce powder.

Your search for a great popper is over!
Stirring was the old-fashioned way to make popcorn. Despite the inventions of fancy popping gizmos like air popping and microwaving, it turns out that stirring is still the best way.

We love this popper. The yield is consistently fluffy and moist, with very few kernels remaining unpopped. After checking with the company, I now double the recipe using 2/3 cup popcorn. Like the other reviewer, I do use more oil than 6T. Remember to use only oils with high smoking points.

This is a very sturdy, well-made product. Cleaning is easy. Although the whole thing can go in the dishwasher, I do prefer to hand wash the lid.

Seems to be a high quality popcorn maker with versatility to use it for making other snacks. I liked that the construction is stainless steel and glass, no plastic parts, and that it has solid paddles for the stirrer rather than a thin wire like most stovetop poppers. It is expensive but given that I should last a lifetime (5 year warranty), it'll likely be cost effective. That it can be used as a regular saucepan is also another plus. Overall, it looks really good.
