The cookware that gets better with each use.

EXCLUSIVE ECO-FRIENDLY Celebrated by chefs everywhere, carbon steel provides exceptional browning and searing, weighs a fraction of cast iron, is more heat responsive than cast iron for faster, more even heating and, best of all, gets better with each use! Every time you use these remarkable skillets, they become darker, forming a layer of patina, which naturally improves their durability and nonstick properties—they’re virtually indestructible. BK Black Steel is tough, lightweight and winner of the 2019 Red Dot Award for design.

Three times denser than aluminum, hot-rolled black steel is even stronger and more durable than traditional gray carbon steel, and with a thickness of 2mm, these skillets were made to conduct heat incredibly well and last for generations. They’re are extremely resistant to corrosion, damage and stains thanks to a high-temperature black iron oxide layer and are safe for use with metal utensils. Their coated cast iron handles are securely attached with rivets and shaped for comfort.

BK Black Steel is naturally pre-seasoned with oil during the production process. This cookware ships with a thin silicone wax coating that’s much easier to remove than a thick layer of beeswax or grease, so it’s ready to use after a quick wash with soap. Cleaning is as simple pouring on hot water, wiping, then drying.

BK has a rich history of innovation. In 1851, coppersmith Hendrik Berk of Kampen, Holland, was commissioned by local inhabitants and businesses to make milk churns, pots, pans and other cooking utensils. Forty years later, he added a protective layer of enamel to his steel pans and tins and introduced the world to the first enameled steel Dutch oven. This laid the foundation for BK, which continues to bring high quality and innovative engineering to their approach to cookware. BK’s crowning achievement came in 1951 when Queen Juliana awarded them the Royal predicate—a title awarded only to organizations that hold a prominent position in their field.

Love this pan
Just started to use this pan and it’s wonderful. Just like cast iron but lighter and no pre-seasoning!

New best friend in the kitchen
I always used a cast iron for burgers and steak if I didn’t want to fire up the grill. I am glad I purchased this skillet burgers and steak were perfectly seared and for a change not stuck to the pan. Clean up was so easy and love how much lighter it is than my old cast iron. I would recommend this to my friends who like to cook on cast iron but hate the weight.

I have other steel pans
but this one is exceptional.

A popular TV cooking show reviews equipment on occasion. A few years ago they talked about the "latest craze" . . . . carbon steel pans. They compared a handful and decided a French made pan was the best.

It became so popular that Amazon quickly sold out. When they were available the price was considerably higher than before.

I got mine before the price increase. Used it a few times but never fell in love with it. Only slightly lighter than a similar size cast iron skillet. The design and weight made me feel it really needed a helper handle.

The only saving grace was it was slicker than cast iron.

I eventually stopped using it and donated it to charity.

That will not be the case here. This pan is considerably lighter than carbon steel pans from other manufacturers. It has a nice finish and a "stay cool" handle with the forked design.

I have only used it once but it will definitely become my go to pan when I cook.

My new FAVE!
This pan does everything a cast iron pan does, only better. It heats up very quickly, and cooks evenly. I get a really good sear on meat with this, and can easily caramelize onions. My favorite food to cook in this other than meat are brussel sprouts - sooo easy to get that yummy char on them! The best part is that it's light weight compared to cast iron. It's also pre-seasoned so it's already nonstick right out of the box. It's low maintenance and only needs to be wiped out with a paper towel after cooking or quickly run under some water. After that I just make sure to coat it in some sort of oil or fat (usually avocado oil). It's definitely a staple in my kitchen! Love!
Amazing Sear!
Amazing Sear!

Love this pan
I've used this pan every day since I got it. I make quesadillas that are crispy, fluffy pancakes, and it's amazing for caramelizing onions and other veggies. That's not even getting into the sear I get on meat. It basically does everything you want it to do. Great pan, great price, really impressed.

It really is PRE-seasoned.
I worked at a diner in college and loved cooking on carbon steel. However, I could never get that same effect of the "perfectly seasoned" pan at home. Out of the box, this pan has been a dream. I was amazed the 1st time I cooked on it and got a flawlessly seared salmon that slid right of the pan. This may become my go-to pan.

Most incredible sear
I have been using this pan for a few weeks now and it truly became my new 'go to' pan in my kitchen. It's amazing how quickly this pan heats up and I get the most beautiful sear on my chicken, veggies,.. in no time. I was also surprised about how easy this carbon steel pan is in use. With my previous carbon steel pans, I had to go through a complex seasoning process, which is not at all the case with this pre-seasoned Black Steel pan. It only gets better and more nonstick while using it. Absolutely recommend!

Absolutely love this pan!
I'm super happy with my new BK pan. It heats up in no time and I was able to get the most beautiful sear on all the food I made: shishito peppers, french toast, potatoes, meat, chicken. And it's nonstick too, ideal for my fried eggs in the morning.
Usually, with carbon steel, there's a long process you have to go through to be able to start cooking with the pan. I was immediately able to use this pan, after washing it with some hot water. Recommend this to everyone who needs a pan that does it all!

My wife and I were looking for a new frying pan and this seemed to combine the best of what we were looking for. It provided the versatility to cook on high heat including sears and still do non-stick type cooking such as eggs. All at the a reasonable cost. (The 20% discount didn't hurt either.) The pan coming pre-seasoned is a plus. Lastly, we hope the pan will last much longer than a traditional non-stick pan without the environmental/health concerns associated with some of those pans.

Because I'm looking for a good nonstick pans. I purchased the Sir La Table brand a few years ago and they are trash. The nonstick coating is all chipped and cracked. Very disappointed in that brand.

Do the handles get hot? Do we need mitts while cooking?
Mary-Ann O on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The handles are cast iron and are vented at the connection point. They will stay cool on the stove, but will get hot in the oven.
Can this be used on induction stove?
Shalini T on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes! They are very good on induction.
Can these pans be used on a ceramic cook top stove? Thank you!
A shopper on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes. We have gas, but have used on our son’s ceramic cooktop.
How is the cleanup: i.e. if high heat causes food to stick to the pan, how do you clean it?
A shopper on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: My experience has been that these pans are easy to clean. A little soap and hot water is all you need. They are not dishwasher safe, so do not use the dishwasher. Best to clean right after cooking when the pan cools. They are carbon steel, though, so you can not leave them in a sink of water or rusting can occur. So hot water, soap and brush does the job....after cleaning I rub a little oil on mine (as you would a cast iron pan) to keep the surface well seasoned. If you had burnt on food that is stuck to the pan, I would fill the pan with some water, return to the stove, and bring to a boil. That should remove any burnt on mess.
I have scanpan and over time it has started to flake. Will this?
Candy W on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: If you season it properly after use with only a very light film of oil it should never flake. If it does it is most likely caused by improper use and seasoning. The flakes are accumulated oil, not the finish.

I have some cast iron skillets that have build up. After stripping them down and re-seasoning they are fine.

Cooking with and taking care of steel and iron pans is much different from stainless or so-called non-stick pans.
Can you use this pan on an electric glass top stove? I would love one that I could. Cast iron is doubtful. Thanks!
A shopper on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes this works on all stovetops.
Is there a lid available for this?
A shopper on Jun 2, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have a 12 inch name brand glass lid that is a perfect fit for the 12 inch skillet.
does this work with induction cooktops?
A shopper on May 31, 2019
does this pan warp or get hotspots?
terry m on Jun 1, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Fairly even heating. Hot spots will happen with any pan if you are cooking on an electric stove. Not so much with gas.

If you heat it to high and then run water on it I suppose it might warp. But like cast iron and GOOD stainless, there is never any reason to cook on higher than medium.

I often rinse my pans in hot water soon after plating the food. The pans have been off the stove for a few minutes. Before serving I run hot water over them and use a bamboo spatula to remove most food residue.

I do the same with cast iron.

Another way to give a "quick clean" is wiping down the pan with a paper towel. You can do the final clean after your meal.
I am concerned with the silicone wax that the pans are shipped with, as silicone is not a food, nor is it an additive for foods, but rather it is a lubricant and water-proofing agent. How can I be sure that it is entirely removed prior to using the pans and that the food that I prepare is free of any traces of silicone residue?

Dies it have a non stick quality?
vijaya s on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes. Follow instructions, do not use soap, and it is great!
Is there any coating applied by manufacturer to create this non-stick quality?
A shopper on Jun 5, 2019
BEST ANSWER: No. Black carbon steel is naturally non-stick
What are the dimensions of each of these pans? Cooking surface, height of skillet lip from base, overall diameter, height of end of handle from base? Thank you.
A shopper on Jun 9, 2019
Do I need to reseason this after a while? How long does the pre-season coating last?
A shopper on Jun 17, 2019
BEST ANSWER: We've just got ours and have used it half a dozen times. We can see lighter areas on the surface of the pan, but it is still smooth and things aren't sticking. With as much use as this is getting, I imagine we will not have reseason often, if at all.
Dishwasher safe?
A shopper on May 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Would not put in dishwasher!
