Great Dutch Oven
This is the perfect Dutch Oven for those who might not want to put down 300 clams yet for an enameled cast iron dutch oven. It makes beautiful gumbo and pot roast and the non-stick coating is easy enough to maintain.

The Only reason I would give it 4 stars and not five is because I love my Lodge Cast Iron Combo Cooker just a little bit more. The combo cooker uses a frying pan for the lid (Lodge only produces these in the 3 qt size) and I wish they made it in a 5 or 6 qt version as well.

Overall, this is a great piece of equipment that will last you more than one hundred years. It's perfect for baking breads and braising meats and cast iron is such a better alternative to other toxic nonstick coatings

Great Value
I purchased this Dutch Oven as a gift for my daughter. She really wanted one but after the initial sticker shock of browsing the enameled famous maker brands at nearly four times the cost, I almost gave up. Luckily I spotted the Lodge version online for a fraction of the cost, and I figured if Sur La Table carried it then it must be fairly good. When it arrived I was a little surprised at how sturdy and substantial it was. Bottom line is that it's terrific in the kitchen...does a wonderful job of braising and simmering to perfection. With a little care to lightly oil the Dutch Oven after each use, I am happy to recommend it. Lots of oven for your money

Love Lodge cast iron
My daughter knows I love kitchen gadgets and gave me a gift certificate to Sur La Table. I had wanted a Dutch oven for quite a while but just couldn't justify the expense to myself. While browsing on line to find something I wanted to use my gift certificate to buy, I came across this Lodge cast iron Dutch oven. I LOVE it! I use it more than I thought I would because it's such a great piece of equipment. Although the price was excellent (much less than some others), it is very good quality heavy cast iron. And I love the fact that it is made in the USA

Dutch Oven
Trying to make a decision on what type of dutch oven I wanted to purchase was time consuming. I looked online and at the different types over and over again. Sometimes the cost made me say, No. Then I watched a video on how Lodge Dutch Oven were made and I realized that that is exactly what I wanted. A sturdy, well made and durable so that I could cook over and over again knowing that this product would last.

Faith H on Aug 15, 2017
I want to make fermented bread and need a dutch oven that can handle a 500 degree oven. I know and love cast iron. I inherited my mom's skillet and use it frequently. It's at least 50 years old, probably much older, and is still wonderful for cooking all sorts of meats, even salmon, that require high temperature. I own excellent cookware, some quite pricey, but I'm confident this Lodge pot will do the baking job beautifully without the big $$$.

Can this be used on a glass top stove?
A shopper on Aug 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: From the Lodge FAQ section:

"What heat sources can Lodge products utilize?

Lodge products may be used on various heat sources including gas, electric, induction and ceramic/glass top stoves and ovens. Seasoned Cast Iron can also be used on the grill or for camp cooking. Microwaves should not be used.
Do not to drop cookware on the stovetop or slide across the surface. Begin heating cookware on low and slowly bring heat up to medium or medium/high. Always remove cookware from the stovetop after cooking. We recommend that you refer to your stove/range manufacturer’s owner manual for more information regarding ceramic/glass top stovetop requirements."
is this pan pre-seasoned?

and does it come w/care instructions?
A shopper on Jun 26, 2012
BEST ANSWER: These dutch ovens are preseasoned by being sprayed with a soy based vegetable oil and then fired at high temperatures. No instructions are included because they are already seasoned. I suggest that you simply dry it thouroughy after each use and remember to never use soaps or chemicals to clean it. Also, coat your cookware with vegetalbe oil and bake it for an hour every so often to keep it well seasoned
What are the internal measurements of this pan?
A shopper on Jan 7, 2011
BEST ANSWER: This pan has a 10"" diameter & is 4 1/2"" deep
does this dutch oven have spikes on the inside of the lid for grilling when camping? can one also use this for baking when camping? do both sizes have these features?
Lani M on Nov 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have the 7 QT size and yes, it does have spikes on the inside of the lid. I have never used mine for camping so I can't directly speak about how well it bakes when camping, but my sister-in-law uses hers all the time and says it works great.
Does this have spikes on the inside of the lid?
A shopper on Sep 3, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, this oven does have evenly distributed spikes on the underside of the lid. We have really enjoyed it, and we know that Lodge items are made to last. Hope that this is helpful!!
does this have spikes on the inside of the lid?
A shopper on Nov 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it does have spikes on the underside of the lid. We use this pot so much !
Does the dutch oven's 10 1/4 " and 12" covers fit the 10 1/4" and 12" cast iron frying pans respectively?
A shopper on Jun 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes they do. As a matter of fact when I purchased the 12" frying pan, I did not purchase the lid as the dutch oven fits it perfectly. I would rarely be using them together
Is the bottom of the 5-quart pot perfectly flat on a stove top or is it warped a bit?
John M on Jul 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It is perfectly flat. There is a logo in the center of the pot that says lodge, but the pot does sit flat and there is no warping.
When I cook with the spiked lid on and it creates steam, a metallic oil drips into my food. How do I clean and cure the lid so this doesn’t happen?
Nicooleykid on Sep 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Dutch Oven needs to be seasoned just like cast iron skillet.
First wash it with warm soap using the soft side of the sponge. Dry it completely with paper towel.
Coat it (inside and out) with a vegetable based oil (i.e. Crisco). place it in the oven upside down (both the pot and the lid). Bake it for an hour at 375 F. This will create a solid coating on the inside of the lid.

PS. Do not forget to put an aluminum foil on the bottom of the oven to catch the oil drippings.
Is it safe for ceramic top stove?
vijaya s on Sep 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It is....I use mine on the ceramic. BUT....be careful not to slide it around. It left some white marks. If I had known ahead of time, I would ave been more careful. Otherwise, I love it. Best of luck
