I can see why everyone likes these
I have marveled at the pretty colors for years and I finally got a gift card to use on this purchase. I used it and like my friend said...food tastes better in one of these. I loved using the dutch oven but need to learn not to grab the know with my fingers once it starts cooking. It gets hot (learning those toddler lessons all over again). Got it in a fabulous turquoise color and I digging that choice.

Excellent pot!
This pot is as close to perfect as a pot gets. It's sturdy, durable, functional, and flat out easy to use. The lids fit tightly to keep in moisture. The pot holds heat really well so I don't have to use high heat which means I don't burn my food. The enamel finish is tough and resists scratches and chips. The pot has large, comfortable handles which is important because it's heavy when you have it loaded with food.

I am vegan so only vegetables and grains go in my pot. That means I don't need a big pot. The 4 qt. size is ideal for me. I can cook nearly everything in this pot. It's a winner!

Why did you choose this?
Sur La Table Store
Because after 30 years of marriage, our dutch oven, also a wedding gift, has accompanied my husband and I along the way through life. Many special family meals have been cooked in out dutch oven. It is my hope that the couple that we have given this special gift to will connect with family through their years together through their dutch oven.
Elizabeth S on May 14, 2019
It's quality and expensive so couple may not buy for themselves. I have same pot and like it. It is a bit unique, plus it is a pretty color.

Need size. Staub makes a beautiful product. Nothing can out cook Staub cast iron.
Sue F on Apr 28, 2019
It is the only size your steamer fits (I hope).
Joe F on Apr 28, 2019
I had this before but I ruined it by leaving the stove on and left the pot on the stove for hours after all the liquid evaporated and burned the pot. I loved this pot so am replacing it. I loved this color.
Linda T on Apr 26, 2019
been eyeing this for a while. I already have a 7.5 Q oval and like the way it cooks. I like the way the lid fits and the dimples compared to le creuset. And the black matte interior is easy to maintain.

I love Staub products and I've been wanting this cocotte for a long time. The 5.5qt is the perfect size for our family of 4 + leftovers, will fit a whole chicken or roast. Plus, it's just beautiful!
Jill D on Dec 13, 2018
Recommended by my nephew, a professional gourmet chef. I currently have a 3.5 qt oval dutch oven that I use often but wanted a larger one and preferred round. No downside, IMO, to well known competitor and $80 less!

black interior doesn't stain (le creuset stains), more attractive exterior than le creuset in my opinion.

also it's rad

This is a gift. Great size for starter piece of Staub
Nancy Marie R on Dec 1, 2018
Our existing cast iron pot is difficult to keep from rusting despite meticulous care. It's old and was cheap. We love our smaller version of this pot so decided to replace the older cast iron with a Staub.

What is the difference between the Staub cocotte and the stab wide round oven?
Barbara on Sep 2, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The cocotte is narrower & has much higher sides, while the wide round oven is short & broad.
lid size

Hi,for the 5.5qt pot on the underside of the lid does it say 10.25"" (26cm) or 11"" (28cm)?Thank
A shopper on Mar 9, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The underside of the lid for the 5.5qt Staub cocotte says 26 and 10 1/4"
All right, bakers: for making artisan bread/boule which size do you recommend- the 7.25 or the 5.5 qt? Also, pros/cons of the Le Creuset (white interior) vs Staub (black interior and the nibs on interior lid) for baking breads in a Dutch oven. Sigh. Decisions, decisions! I appreciate the advice!

Staub Round Cocotte, 5.5 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Round Dutch Oven, 7.25 qt.
Le Creuset Signature Round Dutch Oven, 7.25 qt.
BEST ANSWER: What is the diameter of the 5.5 quart. if it is 10" that would be the size to go with. Anything smaller is going to make an awful small loaf of bread. I say a minimum of 8" in diameter if there are two or more of you in the house.
Is the brass which contains lead only in the handle of the Staub cookware? I saw the warning in the description of the black round cocottes.
Thank you.
Jody on Aug 29, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, and the brass is only on the outside of the vessel. The screw which holds the handle to the lid, and is the only part of the handle exposed to the interior of the pot, is stainless steel. The brass handle doesn't come into contact with the food.
HOW MUCH BEEF WILL THE 5.5 ROUND HOLD? MAKING BEEF BOURGUIGNON.
Barb K on Dec 12, 2014
BEST ANSWER: It will hold a little under 5.5 quarts of beef. Enjoy!
can you sear meat over high heat in these?
A shopper on Dec 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: love love love my Staub. I do everything in there. Sear,Fry, Braise. i have a smaller one that i love making rice in.
After washing there seems to be an iridescent film on the inside of the pot. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?
cristina y on Sep 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: My Staub pots seem to have a film on them after you wash and dry them and it appears to be dirty but they are not. I have always followed their instructions as not to scrub them but let them soak first. I am not sure about the iridescent film. I know they say they have a pre-seasoned finish so you don't have to. I am going to try alittle oil to make them look better. I do use them for low slow cooking. Maybe you can contact a Staub rep. I really love the way they work and look! Good Luck- I hope I have been of some help. Wendy
what is the weight of this pot?
Bonnie L on Dec 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It is heavier than other pots this size (heavier than the equivalent creuset cookware), but the cookware is so much better. If you can handle weight- you won’t be disappointed. The manufacturer specs should have the exact weight.
How deep is the 5.5 qt cocotte? I want to deep fry. Thanks
Jason R on Dec 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 4 1/2 inches
What is the diameter of the pot without the lid & handles?
A shopper on Sep 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 11 3/8th inches diameter at top, from outer rim to outer rim of pot excluding handles. 10 inch diameter at bottom from outer edge to outer edge. 5 1/4 inch to top of pot from bottom excluding lid. Hope this helps.
