Good alternative to coffee grinder or mini-prep
I bought this machine to replace my old coffee grinder that I used for spices. I tried using my Cuisinart mini-prep to grind spices a couple of times, but that machine didn't grind them as finely as I wanted, and the spices scratched the plastic work bowl.
This spice grinder works wonderfully. The removable stainless steel bowl is easy to clean and has more capacity than a coffee grinder, and the blade grinds spices to as fine a powder as I sometimes like.
My one minor complaint is that the plastic cover doesn't form a completely tight seal, so I always end up with some spice powder on the base and the kitchen counter when I grind spices far less mess, though, than a traditional pepper mill would make

"Great features, poor motor."
I purchased this item because of the Cuisinart name, ease of operation, and easy-to-clean parts. The unit overheated and stopped working after only a few uses. Each time it became very hot with only a limited time use. Worked fine for a time, was easy to clean, but motor does not appear to be very strong. Plastic cup does not make a tight seal during operation so there is always residue to clean up after. I returned it

Cuisinart is dead to me
I keep hoping for the same quality that my original Cuisinart processor has (20 years and still rolling), but every gadget of theirs I've bought in the past 5 years dies or becomes unusable within months of purchase. This time the little cup that is supposed to detach for storage/cleaning is permanently jammed on the base. Awful quality control.

Looking for small grinder
I bought this yesterday to grind my coffee beans a few cups at a time. I thought it was quieter than my last one which lasted about two years, unfortunately this only lasted one little container full before it died out. I will be taking this one back. Sorry Cuisinart, you lost my respect on this one. I miss my Food Network one that they don't sell anymore

will this grind nuts to a powder?
I'm looking for somthing that will do a better job than a food processor on nuts. I'll be using to make light sponge cakes and don't want the corser grind resulting with the processor

BEST ANSWER: It will definitely grind you nuts into a powder, but you'll need to run them in several batches. If you try to grinder too many nuts in the bowl at once, the blade will stick

Will this grind whole bay leaves into powder?
I love to use Penzey's Turkish bay leaves in a rub that I put on lamb and other meats, but my wrist gets VERY tired when using my mortar and pestle to grind the bay leaves into a powder... I would love to be able to simplify this time-consuming and fatiguing task, and hope that this product is just what the doctor ordered. Any thoughts? Thank you
