Description

SPECIAL VALUE Handcrafted by expert artisans in Japan, this Shun Premier chef’s knife features a core of proprietary VG-MAX super steel clad on both sides with 34 layers of Damascus stainless steel. All Premier knives are hammered by hand with a technique known as tsuchime to a beautiful finish that reduces drag when cutting, preventing food from sticking to the blade. Ultra-thin blade edges retain a lasting and razor-sharp edge for precision on the cutting board.

Wow factor
Not only will this knife bring alot of ""wow"" factor to the table, but it holds up great in the kitchen. As a professional chef, this is my daily use knife. The handle I find to be more comfortable than standard Shun handles (not that they are uncomfortable), and the blade is VERY durable and holds up great to heavy use

The Shun Premier 6in. Chef's knife a excellent choice.
There is no need for 50 words. If I need to buy another 6in. Chef's knife for myself or for a gift I would not look any further.

a perfect knife
It's hard to believe that a knife can be so perfect. It is stunning to look at, the weight and balance is amazing and slicing is like cutting through butter. A dream knife!

Always love Shun
So this is my second Shun, I love it, too bad it's only 6in. It gets the job done for me though. I took off one star because, it has been my experience with Shun, the tip is quite brittle and looks as if it will break soon. My first one did the same thing and I was told Shun would not replace it. So.... However I still love the feel and balance, this is the best company for lefties like me. Happy Cooking!

Stick to 8" Classic
The blade quality is great and it's beautiful, but the Classic D-shaped handle Shun is known for (on the classic knife) is more comfortable. Additionally, while I didn't think I'd miss the extra inch found in your classic 8", I was wrong. He difference is noticeable and a bit uncomfortable

Featured in Mens' Journal, did some research. Japanese damascus steel knives are excellent. Double bevel edge and handle are suitable for left and right handed users. Buying these for my southpaw children!

I mean just look at that beauty. I wish the 8in was in but hey I can live with a 6in at home. The blade looks absolutely stunning, and I can't wait to use it.

I picked this knife as a gift as the Shun knives are very high quality and nice craftsmanship. However, I will say that they are a bit fragile and can ship. For myself, I purchase German knives as they are more durable - don't need to be as careful about washing right away or chipping etc.

Have been reading about this brand and interested to try it Prepare a lot of vegan and vegetarian meals and there is a lot of slicing and dicing and from what I've read this knife moves quickly through vegetables and herbs

A work of art. I didn't think that I could be seduced from the Shun Classic but this knife appears to even better mimic the ancient Samurai sword-making art. Learned many years ago one really excellent tool gives more pleasure than a roomful of barely adequate junk.

Is this knife functional for left handed people?
A shopper on Mar 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: D-shaped handles are traditionally made to be used in the right hand. They can be used by left handed people, but they most likely will not be as comfortable.
Where do u get these knives sharpened ?

Shun Premier knives
A shopper on Dec 8, 2011
BEST ANSWER: You should contact your local Sur La Table store to arrange to have your knife sharpened. If you are not near a store, and you do not feel comfortable sharpening this knife yourself, you can take it to anyplace that sharpens knifes. Please note however that these knives are designed to hold their edge for a very long time and do not need to be sharpened often. If you feel as though your knife is losing its edge, it probably just needs to be honed. This will re-align the steel and return it to its original sharp edge. You should hone your knives at least once a week and I have known some professionals who hone after every use to retain the edge on their blades
How does this Shun compare to Miyabi Artisan SG2 Chef's Knife? At Sur La Table, Shun offers free lifetime sharpening - so that seems a plus. Some reviews claim the angle of the Miyabi is bette, although I understand SG2 is hard to sharpen. Any insight is appreciated.
James O on Dec 31, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The miyabi hands down. Sur La table will sharpen for $5. Not that you will need it anytime soon if your using it on a good surface
I'm deciding between a Shun Premier 8" chef knife and the Miyabi SG2 rocking santuko. I've tried both and like both. Any expert opinion or advice?
julie h on Jan 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have 3 Shun knives and absolutely love them, I have never prepped with a Miyabi. I cook constantly and am very critical and like to have efficient , quality equipment. Good luck.
One of the reviews says, "this is the best company for lefties". Why is that?
A shopper on Sep 1, 2017
BEST ANSWER: That's hard to say as it's a matter of opinion. Typically D-shaped handles are made for right handed users. It's possible that this reviewer thinks the Shun knife is more comfortable than most D-shaped handles.
Whats the size of blade and total size of knife?
A shopper on Jan 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: 6in. for the blade; the handle is long enough to fit well inside of your hand. Perfect balance. Sharp as a fine Spanish shaving blade. I also have a 8in. which I forgot about it.
