Top notch mixer
I've had a KitchenAid stand mixer for 35 years [purchased new ones just to change the color] but they all still work! This one was purchased as a gift for my daughter as a wedding gift.

Apprehensive to use
I received this mixer for Christmas. It has a stainless steel bowl. First time I used it, my cake batter turned gray. And the second time, and the third time. I washed very well in-between uses. I called customer service and was advised to wash using a salt/lemon juice mixture or baking soda mixture. The gray color residue was attributed to polish on the inside of the bowl that was used by the manufacturer. Even after washing by those recommended methods, when I cleaned again with liquid soap and water on a white paper towel, the paper towel turns gray. \Finally had to use Bar Keepers Friend (also a recommended method) on a scrubbie. After four more scrubbings and cleanings, my white paper towel no longer turned gray. I am now hesitant to use the wire beater that came with the mixer for fear that it too has the same polish problem.

So Disappointed!
I had a 4 1/2 qt. Kitchenaid mixer that served me well for many years. When it came time to replace it, I decided to go with a 5 qt. Artisan. I am so, so disappointed with it!. I never had an issue when mixing bread dough in my old mixer, but this new one practically comes to a standstill when the dough gets a little heavy. With my first Kitchenaid mixer, I always knew when enough flour was incorporated into the dough, but the new mixer does not mix it in well enough so I have to end up mixing the last cup or so by hand which defeats the whole purpose of having this larger mixer. It appears the quality of these newer mixers has dropped considerably.

Attachments failing
I have had my Artisan mixer about 5-6 years. My paddle and dough hook attachments are cracking at the attachment base and also the bottom - the enamel is starting to chip away. Really frustrating, as my mom has had her KitchenAid for like 25 years and has needed no replacement parts!! Also, the bowl is quite small. With quite a few recipes, the dough or whatever it is flows up and over the attachment. I wish I got the larger, more professional model with stainless steel attachments. Hoping their is a recall for attachments that shed plastic into my food.

My mother-in-law gave me her old white stand mixer that she had forever when she moved into a retirement home. I loved that thing and used it all the time. I finally talked my husband into buying me a new one mainly for the color since I use it so much that it sits out on the counter. I love the color that I got but am disappointed with the way it works. The head bounces up & down every time I use it even in the locked position and doesn't mix the bottom of the bowl. It's so frustrating! My husband has adjusted it many times but still no luck! I guess they just aren't made like they use to be.

Not worth the price tag.
Can't complain too much, because my mixer was a gift, but I would not have purchased the tilt-head version. It's a bit chinsy. It's not all that practical for adding ingredients or getting a spoon in the bowl. Getting the bowl out of the twist lock is super ridiculous and very poorly designed. The bowl gets stuck, especially the glass bowl with its cheesy plastic locking mechanism. A bowl lift version makes much more sense. Overall, I wish I'd returned it and ponied up the extra for the better mixer.

Kitchenaid - wouldn't be without one!
This is my 2nd Kitchenaid after my first worked hard for 25 yrs making many baked goods and the mixing the dough for the annual 6-7 batches of Christmas Gingerbread cookies. The best appliance for the job and makes the baking fun and fast.

Not your mother's KitchenAid, unfortunately
First one stopped working while whipping egg whites, after only 2 months of use. Sent it back for replacement, now that one's not working correctly ether, slowing significantly with any load. These aren't nearly as well built as models from 20 years ago.

I grew up with my mother having a kitchenaid mixer and we would use it together all the time. I knew, one day, when I registered for my wedding, a kitchenaid mixer would be on the list. For my shower, I was given money (specifically allocated for the mixer) to pick out whichever one/style I wanted.

I have always wanted a nice mixer. The sale price prompted me, I have seen the pro version at the same price on sale, but thought that would actually be too big, if just making egg whites and such. The color Vintage Blue has a matte look that I just love. I can't wait to get it. I hope this will be my last mixer.

I've wanted this mixer for a long time now. The funny thing is I can't make up my mind what color to get it in. It's between the Empire Red, black or one of the grey shades. Any factors someone should consider when choosing a color?
A shopper on Sep 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Decide whether you want it blend in, not be obvious, pop, or complement your kitchen, it it's going to sit out on the counter. The artisan comes in a plethora of colors other than red, black or gray. Also, look at the candy apple red as it's gorgeous, at least my friends and I think so. The pro line mixer is amazing, (I have one and it's my favorite) something to think about.
What is the difference between the 6500 Series Stand Mixer and the Artisan Stand Mixer? There is a $200 difference and I am wondering why I would want to splurge on the 6500 Series versus the standard Artisan one?
A shopper on Aug 26, 2015
KitchenAid® Artisan Stand Mixer, 5 qt.
KitchenAid® Artisan Stand Mixer, 5 qt.
KitchenAid® 6500 Series Stand Mixer, 6 qt.
KitchenAid® 6500 Series Stand Mixer, 6 qt.
BEST ANSWER: Great question, it depends greatly on the jobs that you are going to ask the machine to do. If you are making double batches of cookies, large amounts of bread would want to consider the larger 6500. It has a bigger bowl and a more powerful motor. The 6500 also has the lift/lower feature for the bowl versus the tilting head on the Artisan. Hope that helps. Either way, you will own your KitchenAid for the rest of your life.
Where do I find the icecream attachment for this mixer ?

does it run on UK wattage volts?
A shopper on Jul 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I would not i would purchase a uk one - I did the opposite and it did not do the job satisfactorily
Can this mixer use all of the attachments that Kitchen Aid offers?
Nanlyn A on Jul 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The hub is the same for all KA mixers.
Should I buy a larger mixer? What would the advantages be of a larger one?
A shopper on Dec 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I've used the artisan, the 575 6 qt, and the pro 1.3 hp, and I definitely prefer the pro line. It's quieter, faster and doesn't heat up or bog down when making a decent amount of dough. it also has more planetary points making it more efficient when whipping. I have both the 575 and 1.3, which I use depending upon what I'm going to make.
Can this mixer make bread dough?
A shopper on Nov 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Absolutely with the dough hook. The machine should be locked at all times when mixing. No problems mixing 4+ cups of flour.
Does anyone know if the KA 5 qt. stand white paddle beater been discontinued? no seems to carry it anymore; only the side swipe. I am hoping KA has remade it to not chip before re entering it into the market. How ever, I still need to have one even though it is the 5th time as previously one have scrapped paint off the bottom, which many people complain about. I use my mixer at least once a week and make bread and the side swipe does a fine job with cake but not bread (before changing to dough hook). All the cooking stores have discontinued this item for a reason.
Janet P on Feb 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you're scraping paint, you need to adjust the mixer. Refer to your manual or just do an Internet search.
Any attachments chop nuts?
A shopper on Oct 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, not really. You'd want to use a food processor for a task like that. The KitchenAid does have a grinder attachment which you could use to perhaps make an almond flour, let's say but if you're just looking to chop up some walnuts or something, a small food processor will do the trick.
Which color looks like stainless steel?
A shopper on Jan 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Silver Metallic looks most like stainless steel.
Will the 4.5 quart bowl from the old tilt head mixer fit in this 5 quart mixer?
A shopper on Dec 17, 2016
Is the 5-qt Artisan too big for single recipes of cookies and cakes?
Marcia R on Dec 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No, I use it all the time for single recipes and actually don't know what I did before i had it just using a hand mixer. It is actually the right size for any single cookie, cake, quick bread. I would probably not make more than a double recipe in it.
A shopper on Dec 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: White beater is meant for basic cake mixes and basic mixing. The silver beater that has many prongs and looks like a standard risk is meant for whisking. Like making meringue out of egg whites. The white one can also be purchased with a rubber edge that helps scrape the sides of the bowl like a spatula. It's great.
