Love this bowl!
I bought this some time ago to dress up my Artisan mixer. I think it looks great and works just fine. Of course it *is* heavy, but that's because it's solid glass. And that being said, you have to treat it as such. Glass breaks. Glass chips. However treat it with care and it'll last. The grey base unscrews from the bowl so you can put it in the microwave when needed, just twist it counterclockwise and it comes off. The lid it comes with is a nice touch too!

A cool kitchen addition but probably not a necessity
I absolutely love it! It's bigger then the metal bowlI suppose it would help you to know when egg whites or cream was nearly whipped or butter & sugar had been creamed well if you were multitasking. Two tiny little flaws. Mine is sometimes to get on and the lid could fit a little tighter.

Mostly Happy with mine
I have had my mixer about 6 months. I now average a cake a week (everyone loves lemon pound cakes). I find the bowl heavy but then again I'm 80. Donna the Dough Girl's review caught my eye. I have the opposite problem. My bowl locks with the handle close to the mixer but has not cracked. Probably because I have to be careful not to mash my fingers. The other thing is, I am left handed! That coupled with the fact that it's heavy causes me to be more careful not to drop it makes me exercise caution. Seating it requires a second effort sometimes. Otherwise I am happy with the bowl. The only other thing is my switch doesn't move easily from setting to setting.

i got this for a xmas gift i love that it is microwaveable but it shattered with in the first month making pizza dough. got it replaced, but the handle is in the wrong spot to lock the bowl down. the bowl wobbles a lot and when you take the bowl off the grey ring is not on the bowl very well. need to be fixed

So much better than silver one. Easy to see measures and can also use to let dough rise in. It's the best!

Chipped
I have had this glass bowl for about a year now. I had just made some cookies and hand washed the bowl and set it down to dry on a t-towel on my counter. I then put another bowl down next to it and it must have hit the glass bowl just right because it made a sound and I noticed a huge chip on the rim. :( I love my KitchenAid Mixer and use it almost every weekend for baking but I was disappointed that such a minor tap from another bowl [from one of my vintage - 50 year old FireKing jadite bowls] could do the type of damage it did.

Chipped at top and cracked all the way down vertically
Have been using this for several years with no issues and just last week I saw a small chip on top of the bowl. Looking closer, there is a now a split from the chip all the way down to the bottom. I can move the split glass with my hands, luckily it has not shattered yet like some of these other people. I am afraid of using it now.

Great Design/Poor Functionality
I love the look of this bowl! I like to keep my Kitchen Aid on the counter as I love the design but it looks unfinished without a bowl attached. The clear bowl "lightens" up the cramped space in my kitchen. The bowl however never quite sets right in the base - it is very hard to get it to set down and lock which I had accepted as part of the design. Today however, I lifted it after cleaning and barely touched a mixing bowl next too it (expecting the mixing bowl to break) but a large chipped hole came cleanly out of the side of the bowl where it touched. I don't see how this happens....its a clean break, round hole! And the bowls are so expensive, I can't afford a new one....I'll be a dying it to the holiday recycling!

I have a 6 qt kitchen aid mixer, I know this is a 5 qt bowl. My question is will it work with my size mixer if I don't go over 5 quarts??
Launie F on Sep 16, 2015
BEST ANSWER: All KA tilt head mixer bowl bases are the same. The glass bowl fits my KA Artisan Mixer although it is snug at the back. If in doubt, call KA with your serial # for verification.

BEST ANSWER: It is not recommended that you put this bowl in the oven.
Will this bowl fit on the ksm3311 model?
A shopper on Nov 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I never heard of the ksm3311 model, but the product description says the 5 quart bowl fits all stand mixers. My mixer is the 325 watt, which at the time I bought it was the smaller of 2 models. I would go ahead and get it, but you could also get the customer service number for Kitchenaid and email or call them to be sure. I looked up the Kitchenaid web sites just now and what a confusing dilemma. They do not make it easy on anyone, and I did not realize when I bought this bowl that there were so many models and options. It was a gift for my sister, because she had admired my mixer with the glass bowl.
Will this fit the Artisan Mini?
A shopper on Oct 2, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don’t think so. It’s the same size as the metal bowl that goes to my tilt back, and a mini is shorter.
Is the bowl 5 qt?
A shopper on Jul 7, 2018
BEST ANSWER: yes, as far as I know. It fits on my Artisan Kitchen Aid perfectly.
