Looks great; also cooks great
These d5 pans are like sculptural art. All my cookware sits out in plain view, and, no doubt about it, the beauty of the d5's adds a little class to the kitchen. Aside from that, they cook evenly and clean up well. I have the 1.5 quart and the 3 quart pans.

My older d3 pans are also very good but lack a couple of d5's new design features -- the pot handle's unobtrusive but helpful grip ridge and the rolled rim. I also like d5's larger helper loop and the seriously massive lid handles that remain cool enough to grab without a pot holder.

Tonight I did a little casual comparison when I cooked with both the d5 3-quart and my older d3 4-quart. These are two excellent pans, but I especially liked the way the d5 sat so solidly on the ceramic stovetop and the way it seemed frictionless when I slid it to another burner.

All-clad's pots and pans tend toward HEAVY, with all that stainless steel. If the d5's have any drawback, it's the additional weight. I one-hand the 1.5 quart easily, but I always use the helper loop with the 3 quart. I've been tempted by the d5 6-quart soup pot, but its 7 pound weight (empty!) dampens my enthusiasm.

Other D5 brushed items are great - this saucepan is defective
I'm upgrading my cookware from entry-level Cuisinart that I had for more than 10 years and started with All-Clad D5 Brushed. Two skillets are terrific - then this was the first saucepan I tried. I've tried three of them - two from Sur La Table (the service here is wonderful!) because I really wanted my whole upgrade to be the same set. Oh well...

I used it once to make oatmeal - medium heat, wooden spoon, no issues - cleaned the pot with Barkeeper's Friend and a soft sponge - and once clean, it had small pock marks on the cooking surface where the top layer of metal was worn away. At first, of course, I thought they were spots not cleaned - but no, they were in fact pocks in the metal - bits of the surface worn away - from one use. I figured it was just a bad item - exchanged it for another of the same item. Again - cooked oatmeal once, same steps - but then since the pot was going to be easy to clean, just used a regular dish soap and soft sponge - again, pock marks where the surface was worn away.

Determined that my new cookware would all be the same set - I wanted to try once more. I bought new sponges and new wooden tools - just in case - at the local SLT ... the manager recommended I give it another shot - but they were out of them so I bought the third from another vendor. You can see the photo of what happened after exactly the same exercise.

When I returned it, I also reached out to All-Clad to let them know about the problem and they were horrid. First reply was an inane automated system - second reply was from a human and worse. No interest in discovering that they have a problem that could potentially be dangerous. I certainly don't want to eat or serve metal in my food. Bummed as I love their other pieces - but really bummed to learn how poor their service is - makes me want to look to other brands for the rest of my upgrade.

New Pans for Christmas
After 15 years of living with mish-mashed pots and pans, our family gave ourselves a new set for Christmas and wasn't that a good idea! We have a gas Viking stove top and these pans perform very well. Do yourself a favor and give u the random set you have and invest in yourself and your cooking and get the good stuff!

Gorgeous and useful
Since getting this saucepan, I've been using it 5 out of the 7 days. I like the capacity and the fast boiling of water....and not to mention the great look of it. One thing is the weight, but I understand it is because of the quality of the pan. The lid's handle does get hot after cooking a while though.

Awesome piece of cookware
I have now used my 4 qt D5 pan several times since purchasing and I have to say that it is the best saucepan I now own. The consistency of heating and cooking is amazing.I have owned a wide variety of cookware over a cooking career that has spanned nearly 50 years. Please don't be misled, I am not a professional cook but what other consider a very experienced home cook. All-clad had just made my life easier. The quality of workmanship is beyond reproach. Cleanup is a breeze (even though I never put cookware in the dishwasher).
Please accept my hearty congratulations on making a superior product. I will certainly consider your company whenever I need to replace/expand my cookware repertoire.

BEST ANSWER: The pan/pot is brushed and any lids are polished. Brushed pots/pans in my opinion do a better job of hiding any scuffs that may occur. Just keeps some bar keepers friend around and it makes clean up a breeze inside and out.
I am looking for measurements of the 3-quart saucepan and the 4 quart saucepan? Thank you.

Where can I find an 8 quart, d5 brushed stainless stockpot with non-stick surface to match with the set I bought?

BEST ANSWER: I don't believe that All Clad makes one. If they do, we don't carry it at this time.
Aside from the volumes of the 2 qt. and 3 qt. saucepans, do the dimensions of the 3 qt. saucepan make it more user friendly than the 2 qt. saucepan?
A shopper on May 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: 3 qt saucepan comes in handy if you also buy a steamer that fits it perfectly. It is also useful for smaller amount of meats stewed in a sauce. The 2 qt is great for sauces, large amounts of rice etc. It all depends on the size of the family :-)
Does the long handle get hot?
Maureen F on Mar 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I’ve had these pans for over a year, maybe over 2 years. The handle does not get hot. Down at the base it might get a little warm but that’s all. They are great pans.
What are the inner and outer diameters of the 3 qt saucepan?
A shopper on Mar 5, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The inner width of the pan measures a little under 8 inches across. The outer width from edge to edge measures 8 and 3/4ths inches. The pans have a pronounced lip for easy pouring. The 3qt and the 4qt pans have the same dimensions across and vary only in their height. In case you're interested in nesting several saucepans together.
are the pans induction friendly?
Meli G on Aug 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, they are compatible with induction and with all other cooktops.
