Our Favorite Sugar Cookies
Serves
Makes 36 cookies
Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup colored sugar for decoration, optional


Procedure
In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and mix until incorporated. Add vanilla with the last egg.

In a separate bowl, sift flour and baking powder together. Add half the flour mixture to creamed mixture and mix until combined. Add heavy cream until incorporated and finish with the second half of the flour until mixed completely together. Form dough into a flat disc and wrap with plastic wrap and chill for 2 to 3 hours until firm.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare baking sheets by lining them with parchment or Silpat® baking mats. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to ¼-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on baking sheets.

Bake for 12 to 14 minutes in preheated oven until bottoms and edges of cookies are light brown. Remove from baking sheet and cool on wire racks. Decorate with your favorite icings and sprinkles. Store in an airtight container.
