Makes 12 doughnuts or 24 mini doughnuts
Ingredients
- 2½ cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- ½ cup sugar
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla bean paste
- Zest of 1 lemon (optional)
Procedure
- In a bowl combine all the dry ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together all the wet ingredients. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, being careful not to clump. This will form a soft dough.
- Roll out the dough ½ inch thick on a floured surface and cut out with donut cutters.
- Heat a fryer to 375°. Fry the donuts until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove from the oil and cool slightly. While the donuts are still warm top with sugar, cinnamon sugar or glaze.
