I can’t pick just one! But some of the things that I grab the most include a Microplane zester, a Chef’n juicer, an Epicurean non-skid cutting board, Rösle gravity tongs, Tovolo silicone spatula, Cole & Mason Derwent pepper mill, Kuhn Rikon Swiss peeler, a good French wooden spoon and a sharp 8” chef’s knife (I know, not a gadget, but still so essential in the kitchen).

When you're shopping for new tools for Sur La Table, how do you know when you've found a winner?
The most important thing I look for is function. It’s so important to me that the new items we add solve a problem in the kitchen and make the task at hand easier, faster and more enjoyable for our customers.  
 
We also spend a lot of time critiquing our current assortment to make sure we’re offering the best that's out there — for professional chefs, advanced home cooks and beginners alike. Not everyone has the same culinary ability, or the same amount of time to spend on prep work, so we want to make sure we have everyone covered.

How many tools are in your kitchen?
Way too many to count! I take A LOT of items home for testing, but I only keep the ones I really like. I also have a strict one-in, one-out policy. I probably have a few too many utensils — I have a full crock of “cooking utensils” and a second full crock of “baking utensils” — and I have no less than six different graters, but I try to keep my overall kitchen collection in check (my kitchen is pretty small!).
